My all time favorite pack rod is this antique Eagle Claw. When I was young my best friends father had one and I drooled every time he pulled it out at some remote lake in the mountains. I liked it so much that now I own two, found my last one in brand new condition on Ebay but it wasn't cheap as I had a pile of others bidding against me on it.

It brings me back to my childhood and puts a smile on my face every time I get to use it in a spot like this:

For my backcountry setup I will be using Tenkara. The areas I hit dont have big water so there is no need for a reel. Tenkara setups are really light and take very little space on the pack in/out.
I'll be using this one.

I have this same antique, one of my first buys when I was a kid. I don't use it much but I know what you mean about the memories. I had my first fishing rod rebuilt more for memories too. Today I use a Ross fly rod and a Cabelas Prestige reel for the backcountry. Sage is good as mentioned above already but they are so darn expensive. I've used my friend's Sage, who he sponsored by but just can't justify spending that much money on one. If I fished more, or made my living off fly fishing like he does I would probaly get one of the Sage rods.

Just catching up on this thread. Check out my blog and Tenkara USA. Lots of info, and I think tenkara is tailor made for what you want to do.
