Looking at upgrading my case to the pelican vault v800 but want to know if I’ll have any issues flying with it. I spoke with United airlines and they said rifle cases are covered under their “sporting goods” description and will be charged as one of your standard checked bags. Anyone with this case or larger size rifle case had any issues with trying to be charged for over-sized fee?

Just watch your weight. If the airline only allows 40 or 50 lbs. and you take 2 rifles, ammo, and misc. shit in there, you may have an overweight charge. Shouldn’t ever have an oversized charge though.

Yea we went back in October and it was really easy. United considered it under sporting equipment so as long as it was under 50lbs it was fine. Had my rifle and gear packed in around 45lbs and signed the form at the check in desk and away it went. Was way easier than I thought.

Its a lot to drag around. You might have to get on a shuttle with it, or may not fit into the trunk of a taxi or Uber.

The v700 double rifle case at 40" will fit in the trunk of most cars. The v800 case, because of its length, may not fit most car trunks.
