Hello all,

I am planning a spring bear trip to Montana in the Bitterroot for early June. Will a BA Fly creek suffice or should I look to a 4 season shelter? Thanks.

I use my Copper Spur UL1 all the time in the spring (between 10,500 and 11,500 feet) and it is fine. The only thing I'd really be concerned with is a surprise spring snow with heavy, wet snow.

That was my main concern. I just didn't know how likely it would be, I want to make due with what I have, but if the Fly Creek wouldn't cut it I wouldn't hesitate to get something else.

If I were planning a June trip to western MT, I'd pick a tent that I could sit with a chair inside. That country can get lots of rain that time of year, and laying on the ground for hours gets old fast.

I was looking at doing a hunt like this as well in the future and have a BA 1p Slater. With the comment of rain maybe I will pack a tarp in addition to the tent to set up so I can get out of the tent to hang out under on a rain day maybe set one up in an area I can at least glass some productive area.

I was thinking about picking up a Kifaru Sheep tarp for this purpose.

I bought a fc2 and returned it. The tent has a low confining and unstable confining configuration. I would look for a dome type even single wall such as black diamond highlight or marmot.

I already have a fly creek, I just didn't know if it would hold up to a freak snow storm or not. I was considering a kifaru tarp or a hilleberg, if snow may be an issue.
