A buddy just came back from a backpacking trip and said they pulled his stove - msr pocket rocket - no fuel cans - out of his checked bag on the way home. Got one of those bag inspection notices And no stove when he got home. I guess it is better than on the way to the trip. Anyone else having issues? Any suggestions?

Digging into this a little, it seems fuel vapors can trigger whatever sniffer / spectrometer / detector they use for luggage screening. not sure if it would be something done automated or if an actual agent would have to go looking during either a random or targeted bag search. As one would expect, TSA don’t publish their screening protocols.

here is a note from MSR on how to clean your stove for travel.
