Flatlander in Training

I'll follow jmezs lead....find a program, stick with it and give yourself time to achieve the results you want. As he noted there are many ways to achieve your mt fitness the key is to be consistent with whatever method you choose. I live on a treadmill and stairmaster for the simple reason it is low impact and can fit it into my schedule easily. As to pack training mix it up and don't over due pack training especially as you get older...staying injury free is key as set backs suk!

I didn't prepare nearly as much as I should have. I can hike till the cows come home, on flat surfaces that is.
But once I strapped that back half of a mulie on my pack, everything changed. I need to work on hiking with weight, both uphill and down hill. I didn't realize how strenuous the downhill hike is with that much weight.

Lots of good advise already given.
I would recommend a program that you can stick with year round. It needs to be a combination of pretty high intensity cardio mixed with some pretty high intensity weight training.
As you get older, injury prevention becomes more of a priority. Don't wear out those knees, hips, and ankles trying to overdo it.
I mix in some weighted pack hikes 1X / week starting in July. I would advise being careful not to overdo this. You can really cause some ankle problems if you overdo this.
One thing that made a big difference for me this year was I really focused on getting hydrated prior to and during my hunt. The elevation seemed to have less impact on me this year. The mountains still kicked my ass, but I didn't feel the elevation effects as much, if that makes sense.

Train to Hunt has some pretty good workouts you can easily follow.

Don't waste your money. There are plenty of information that's out there for free.

High intensity interval training. Raise your VO2max, and increase your muscle endurance and strength.

That is correct. I also have nothing nice to say about Crossfit, but I guess I'll keep my opinions to myself concerning fads and sponsors.
Hey man, its a public forum. If you think its beneficial to the OP, post away. If not PM me. I would like to hear your thoughts.
