My old man has a birthday coming up and was wanting a new flashlight to replace the old mag light he still keeps in his truck. Weight isn’t a concern but I want to get him a bright, quality light that will last (IE no Amazon chinesium). He’d be using it for chores/blood trailing/etc. not looking for a headlamp - just a hand held.

I’m a bit overwhelmed looking. I didnt realize there was a flashlight underground . Any suggestions for something at or under $100?

If you're after US made, Surefire is probably your best bet. I've been really happy with both Streamlight and Phoenix too.

Your in for a treat if you haven't looked at flashlights in a while. They have come a loong way. I have a key chain light that is better than my old heavy mag-light. Look at the ones that can take 3 aaa's or a 18650 lithium.

If he has some sort of cordless power tool set almost all of these manufactures offer handheld lights that use their batteries that are usually pretty nice.
