Flagstaff hunting areas

I have a buddy who is moving back home to Flagstaff AZ. He wants to get into bow hunting. He invited me to come stay with him anytime and go hunting. So I was hoping y'all could help me figure out if this is a good elk and mule deer area. If so, what are the chances of a nonresident getting to bow hunt elk or mule deer in the flagstaff area?

Archery deer is over the counter for the August and September archery season around flagstaff. Elk will be a draw, and tougher to draw for a non resident. Areas around Flagstaff are pretty popular. The units close to flagstaff are good for elk and deer.

Thanks AZ Ron! Is it worth putting in for the elk draw in the flagstaff area or would it be better to shoot for a draw elsewhere?

It's been a couple years since I've looked at the Az regs but they used to offer an OTC tag for archery deer in the Kaibab area. They had changed that before I moved but if you can buy or draw a tag in that unit you're doing pretty good. It used to be any of those units south of I-40 by Flag was pretty good for elk. I assume they're still the same.

There is a draw for Kaibab deer now. Elk in or around flagstaff is a good choice.
