Hi I am looking to buy both the Uncompahgre puffy and the Stormtight jacket. But I'm not to sure on the fit, IM 5'7" and about 180. I've searched this site but have not found anyone near my size that I can compare with. Looking at the size chart on their site I would be on the top end of a Med. I have a Kuiu SD jacket in Large that fits perfect. Does anyone know how close in fit these two are? I'm not looking for the athletic fit but I don't want to wear a tent either. I appreciate any inputs you have. Thanks!

Tried the stormtight on in a large and it's huge on me. I'm 5'8 190 and decently big in the shoulders and I'd order a medium

Thanks guys! I would normally just buy it in my normal size and then exchange it if it was not right. But the site I am buying it through has a no returns/exchanges policy. So I would hate to spend money on something that doesn't fit, why go through all the trouble just to have to sell it off. Everything I have read says that FL runs big. I normally wear a large but it seems like I should look at the med.

That's pretty weird that a website would not offer exchange or return...I wear a large in kuiu jackets and shirts but medium base for a more athletic fit in both, not a huge fan of baggy base layers.

Yeah the site sells the stuff at a very large discount since I am in the USAF. The policy is actually through FL themselves, great deal but nervous to pull the trigger since I am not sure about the sizing. I have Sitka and Kuiu, the original Sitka fit a little small and Kuiu seems a little small. But FL seems like it will be a little big? I normally like my base layers to fit more athletic. But I like a little room in my jackets, I hunt in AK and the temps are anywhere from 50 down to -20 when I go out. So having that extra room helps build the layers.

Nice! I'm jealous....makes buying gear a whole lot easier when you get a big doscount. Thank you for your service. I can understand exactly what you are saying. I think you are safe with a medium for sure, I was swimming in the large stormtight. Should work out though.

Thanks, yeah it sure helps out the ole bank account!!!! I will give the med a shot, I appreciate the help!

I wear a large in KUIU and a medium in FL. I don't think you will have a problem with a medium.

To the OP....be very careful when buying from FL through promotive... FWIW, buy only the big dollar items as their stock is not updated and if you order a bunch of stuff, jackets, LU, headwear, socks etc, despite what their site shows as being in stock (stock at FL home page has nothing to do with FL stock on promotive), they may only have the small dollar item and you will still get dinged the processing fee, shipping fee, etc thus making it cheaper to buy at a regular retailer who has decent CS. And as you said, no returns and no calls allowed to FL customer service so too bad for you. Ask me how I know ;). "Aim high!"

I'm trying to make sense of this, but I'm having a hard time. Are you saying there's no ability to return an item through FL themselves?

I bought a Stormtight jacket from a retail on discount, mess up on my end and I selected a size too big (should have created a thread like this before ordering).

I called FL and they accepted my exchange no problem for the jacket in the correct size, even though I hadn't bought it from them directly. Their customer service is fantastic.

Medium. I'm 5'9'' 165 and tried large with the idea of layering. I was literally swimming in them. Medium.

When you buy through promotive (most likely the site the OP is talking about) then yes, there is a "no returns" policy... and a "no calling FL customer service" policy as well.

First lite is the only technical clothing company that I know of that fits true to size. My XL Stormtite is definitely looser fitting than my XL Kryptek Koldo. I dont wear a size large in anything but I think that I could probably fit into a Large Stormtite just fine.

I would personally use a vendor like sandsarchery who offers a 10% discount for roksliders or first shot gear who is also a sponsor, I dont think you will run into the same return issues as they can deal directly with 1st lite instead of you having to deal with promotive.

damon thanks for the nuggets up!! I am only looking at these two things for now. Sort of test the water, would rather spend a few bucks to see if I like it first! But I will keep the thrash in mind when ordering.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the inputs. Might just order these two items to get a feel for their gear. Then look at some other spot to finish the set.

I am 5'10", 175 and everything First Lite has in medium fits me absolutely amazing. Their sizing, like someone else said above, is the closest to true sizing (that also takes into account possible layering) that I have encountered with any clothing.

With Sitka for example I can wear most of their base/insulation layers in medium (besides the kelvin pants, the medium I have is definitely too tight for comfort) However, with EVERY outer layer piece I have to size up to a large because it is too tight, even though I'm following their size charts.
