First off my current $99 Academy special bibs have served me well the last 7 years but they are getting long in the tooth. They are fairly warm but on a 1/4 to 1/2 mile walk in to my stand they get a little hot...which leads to sweat....which leads to cold.

I'm thinking about getting a day pack that I can pack some bibs or insulated pants in and out. Whats your thoughts on the Uncompahgre pants for stand hunting. Looks like they would zip on and off pretty easy. This hunting is typically south Arkansas November in an elevated box blind, it might get down to mid 30s. Thoughts on a day pack as well? It would be super awesome if the daypack would work for airline carry on too. I have a very small osprey daylite that I use for travel but I would like something a bit bigger.

First Lite is coming out with a lighter version of the sanctuary bibs. You can already read up on them on their site. They’re called solitude bibs. I’d aim for those or go all out on the sanctuaries. I can’t tell if the solitudes have a butt flap, which is a deal breaker for me. The butt flap on the sanctuary has been money. Sometimes a sky dump is just unavoidable. Pack them in in your day pack and put them on at your tree. The uncompahgre pants are nice but I don’t think they’re enough for all day sits, especially if you’re doing minimal hiking to get there. You’ll miss your bibs. If you’re gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.

I been thinking the same thing for my elk hunt in 2020. Need some sort of packable insulated layer in case we “stand” hunt but will need the flexibility to hike/climb and spot/stalk. Just checked Cabela’s and they don’t have my size available anymore. I have some time so might see what’s available next spring, but don’t mind a discount either...

I do this exact same thing for hunting out of a treestand in PA.

I typically wear merino baselayer and kuiu guide DCS pants for the hike in on really cold days. Once at my stand, add the Uncompahgre pants. The combo works great. I don’t overheat on walk in, the pants are super warm and windproof.

How quiet are they?

For just sitting/standing in a stand, quiet.

Walking definitely have a swoosh but I find them way too wam too walk the distances I’m walking so this doesn’t impact me
