Here’s my newest adventure. Canyon fishing the Atlantic. Complete rewire, electronics. A TON of work. Going to run for yellowfin, bigeye, bluefin tuna. Maybe find Elvis deep dropping.

It’s been a long learning experience.

I use inline planer boards to spread things out. Then you want to stagger the lengths of the weighted lines for different depths. You want your shortest (shallowest) line on the outside so you can bring it back over the others when you get a fish.

I started running two dipsey s per side last year. There was a learning curve there too! You want one on a three setting and the other on a 1.5 with the deeper one on the inside again. Couple riggers out the back and you’re set.

There have been and will be tangles! When you get a big fish that wants to run left or right and get into all your stuff there’s not a ton you can do. I’ve been doing this for probably 15 years and just starting to feel comfortable with it.

Oh yeah. Autopilot is a must !

We pull seven lines and two teasers. If I had more then one other guy with me to clear lines we could easily run ten lines but with myself and the kids or me and one other guy plus the kids seven is all we can handle. I’ve had 7-800 yards of line out many times before the gear was cleared and we could give chase. We still get it done every day we go out.

I'm not sure I have a photo of the outside of my boat. It's a 1995 Tracker Magna 19 deep V. 150hp Merc and 8 horse Honda kicker. I redid the interior in 2003 and its been a solid boat. Thinking about going to a 21 footer next year, but we'll see.

Last weekend on Lake Michigan. Only running 3 lines since I was solo. Can run 12 lines, but rarely do. Usually run 6-9 rods.

Pretty awesome. Specs?
It’s a 25’ Rock Harbor with a Volvo penta KAD 43 Diesel. I’ve got about 3000 hours on it. Boat is a tank, best following sea hull you can buy. It’s not a rocket ship like the big outboard boats, I cruise at 24kts max, but when it’s shitty, and it usually is, I go right past everyone.

Anyone have pics of their rod set ups for salmon, kamloops, lake trout and general trolling?

I'm starting to think learning to troll correctly and effeciently might be harder then taking french classes.

I ordered a new boat in Feb...but it won't be here until the fall. Last week I sold my current boat...so I'm recently boat-less. We troll on an inland reservoir for Landlocked Atlantic Salmon, Lake Trout and Rainbows. The reservoir is also an incredible bass fishery...so we spend some days doing that as well!
Some gorgeous setups on here.
iPilot is a game changer, especially when trolling for salmon with live bait on or near the surface...nice and quiet!

I'm not sure how big the fish are where you are fishing but our fish a good to big salmon run 3-6lbs, lakers 4-8lbs, rainbows 2-4lbs. We run a lot of flat lines off spinning reels in the early spring, for that I use a pair of 7ft lt action rods and an 8ft lt action rod...all are real soft tips/moderate action and they do just fine. Downrigger rods are a mix of Okuma light action downrigger rods and a Daiwa Heartland kokanee downrigger rods...again real soft rods that give a great fight for the size fish listed above. The 2 leadcore setups are tough to find a real light action rod...and I really don't remember what they are.
The spinning rods are the most fun for sure just make sure you have a smooth and reliable drag. Usually run 8lb mainline w a 6lb leader on spinning rods and 10lb mainline with a 6 or 8lb leader on DR rods.

What does that tank weigh? I got offered a pretty good deal on a smaller 16' aluminum starcraft that's outfitted well, but the idea of having a bigger boat intrigues me. Been seeing a few big center consoles popping up for low 20s here.
