I'll be in the same boat this deer season and plan on grabbing a Savage youth either in 243 or 6.5 creedmoor. Recoil is light and I do a lot of coyote hunting and assume my kids will be joining me as well as they both tag along now so a fur friendly caliber is what I'm leaning towards. When the kids get bigger then I can just throw an aftermarket stock and it'll be a full size rifle.

Remington model 7 243. Or ruger American 300blk on a tighter budget.

I got my kids a savage axis ii. There's a spacer on the butt stock to decrease the LOP and the grip is pretty slim to fit their small hands well. It's a 7mm-08 and they handle the Hornady reduced recoil loads pretty well. They weigh around 85lbs

Im very similar to rtockstein, got a savage 11 youth model back when Gander went outa business for around 200 in 7mm08 use the hornady reduced recoil for my 8 and 6 year olds. Super light recoil and accurate, only problem is finding the ammo for me and living in Illinois its a hassle to ship it here
