First time suppressor buyer - best buying experience?

I have decided on a model I want to go with and during that research saw that Silencer Central catches a bit of a bad rep. I have buddies with mirrored experiences. I understand some folks have had a decent experience with them, but I am not going to be buying from them.

Therefore, I’m looking at Silencer Shop, Capitol Armory, or through my local FFL. I really don’t know pros and cons of each, just really looking at the smoothest process that will provide the least amount of headache. I am somewhat rural but driving to a Silencer Shop Kiosk would be a non issue. I read great things about Capitol Armory. I believe my local FFL is decent to work with from what I’ve heard. Any advice for which route to take?

Or if someone could point me in the direction of a thread with this info. Most of what I found in my search was just the negative info about SC

I've found Silencer Central to be good. The company with the most sales probably also has the most customers who've had a bad experience.

If you think your local FFL is good to work with, I might try that route.

I used a local Silencer Shop dealer with a kiosk. The staff there walked me through it and it was easy. Did it all in store, including finger prints. So as long as they carry the can you want, it’s tough to beat for ease.

I'd say you're on the right track. I would avoid silencer central if there is other options available, either of those other 2 options should work out fine. I know capital armory can ship it directly to you once it's approved just like silencer central.

I dont know if capital can do this too, but im a silencer shop dealer and if you upload/send them a customers prints/photo they can keep it on file so you don't have to do that part of the process again for future form 4's. Unless you get an injury that changes your face or prints significantly at least. That way you can just purchase a can online, certify remotely and then just pick up your can once it's approved in the future.

I have bought 8 from Silencer Shop and all have been good transactions without any issues. Once you have your prints and profile setup, buying additional is super easy.

I'd recommend JA Outdoors and Black Ankle Munitions. Just have em Form 3 it to your local SOT.
That would just cost him extra money unless they discount it the $50-$100 that most dealers charge now if you don't buy through them.

OP I would get it from your local FFL if he has a decent rep. If not Capital Armory has a great rep and Silencer Shop is easy as well if there is a local kiosk.

Not a fan of silencer shop. They will gladly take your money but support after that can be spotty. Long wait times to talk to people and people that really don't care once you get a hold of them. Won't be using them again.

friends have had their best luck using the Silencer Co Kiosk at the local shop. one guy tried another FFL and said will go Kiosk next time

Your most pain free experience will be through your local FFL with something he has in stock, if they do e-file themselves (not a Silencer Shop kiosk or whatever).

My preferred method is having an FFL friend with his own e-forms setup who allows me to ship him whatever from wherever and I give him $20 to do the paperwork/transfer. I'd buy direct from him, but he usually doesn't have what I'm looking for anyway, and I'm a a gear ho who has to pinch pennies to support my habit, so thankful he does what he does. Plenty of places sell suppressors online that you can have sent to your FFL/SOT, just like a firearm.

I went to the local silencer shop with kiosk and set up all my info, then bought from another local silence shop dealer that did not have the kiosk, but did have the can I wanted, in stock. It was seamless.

Scheels made it really easy. Also got one through a SS Kiosk on a can a local dealer had in stock and that was super easy as well. I’d agree buying one from a local store that has one in stock is probably far easier.

I’ve used silencershop, as well as a local FFL that did his own filling.

The local guy (one that gives a crap) doing his own thing without SS was way, way better. My last purchase I walked in Monday morning “I want to buy this” walked out 15 minutes later with a submission email, and I was shooting with the can Friday night after work.

A lot of times with SS it can take TWO weeks before the form 3 is complete and your local dealer has received the suppressor before they can even file, THEN the wait starts. Local guy all the way.

I've used Capitol Armory numerous times over the years with the most recent this past fall. From the moment I clicked buy till the big brown UPS truck knocked on my door with my new suppressor in hand was just under 30 days total.

I have purchased from SC and they were great with everything but their process is much slower. I've also purchased cans local and it went fine too but they were all snail mail process and was before the new online stuff.

Others may have a their process just as fast as Capitol Armory, I don't know but I do know first hand how slick CA has their program down and how well they help you go through everything and they are top notch!
