I just built my first takedown recurve bow! I am pretty excited how it turned out. It is a 60" long, 28" draw, and 45#. I don't want to make this a build along but I'm showing the basics along the way build. I learned a lot on this one and I think I'm ready to do a clear glass for the limbs on the next one because I am a woodworker and love to show off wood grains.

First I had to make the mold and oven for the limbs

Next the riser and limbs. Made them out of Bubinga, Wenge, and Zebrawood

Now I had to do some tillering

Now cut the riser to shape

Now a ton of sanding to shape her

Then off for 5 coats of clear. 3 high gloss and 2 final of semigloss working sanding grit up to 1000

Then all put together

Now the only thing left to do is set my nock point and shelf pad then she's ready to shoot!

I even made my own arrows.

I know carbon flies better but there is something about building everything yourself

Nice work. Don't be scared to veer away from the binghams riser shape on the next one. Look at a lot of bows and let what you like influence your design. Nice shop. Wish i had that kind of space.

I know, I want to I was just nervous that if I started changing the shape to much, it would compromise the strength of the riser. I've already got a few other designs that I like that I'm going to try and shape on the next one. I'm not to fond of the shelf on the Bingham design. I'm sure each one I build will get better

Just remember that the weakest point of the riser is almost always the throat of the grip. That is the only place you can't go too crazy. I have seen a bow break in half first hand that was just too small at that point.

Just finished my second takedown recurve. Turned out a little better than my first. Still a couple things that I want to change for the next one. I should have it down after a couple more
