I've got two girls (7 and 4) and they are definitely awesome! In some ways, I was more excited about having a girl than a boy. The first year will probably be a bit of a blur, but as they get older, they become so much fun! Mine love shed hunting and watching YouTube videos of hunts with me.

Anyone have experience with Child Carrier backpacks for hiking? Looking to get a Deuter Kid Comfort Active for next season. I have a few Deuter packs and their systems are very comfortable for me, but I've never tried an Osprey, etc.

'm taking 3 months off in the 2020 summer and we'll plan to do a bunch of hikes while the kid will be small enough to ride the pack.

Suggestions or experiences?

Congratulations!

I have a 5 year old daughter, 3 year old son, and 1 year old son. Best decisions I ever made (even if the first one was not planned).

Kid backpacks - this has honestly been one of my favorite things of the little kid years. So easy just to put them in the pack and go. Before our first, we were driving down the road and saw a yard sale with an Eddie Bauer backpack, so we stopped and picked it up later. Sometime around the time the first boy came around I picked up a Kelty brand backpack at a 2nd hand store. For me, the Eddie Bauer was much better because it was deeper so the kid sat lower. It's probably a personal preference thing, but I liked that much better. Also, be mindful of the straps and if they can wiggle out of them. A couple times with my 2nd, I had him in there while mowing and he had gotten his arms out of the straps. If your brother lives close or you see him over the holidays, I would suggest borrowing his kid and trying a few on at a store. They are all a little bit funky compared to a normal pack.

Good luck with the infant stage. It's tough but you'll make it.

I'm hoping my youngest (who seems like he will be the biggest) will let me haul him around for one more year in the pack. It will be a sad day for me when I officially retire the backpack.

This is a photo of my 3 year old when he was about a year and a half. As you can see, it's a great way to get them to nap when you are in the outdoors.

Little girls are really sweet. The newborn stage goes really fast but it’s a whirlwind. Try to soak it in. Kids are fun at every age though, especially when they can express themselves with words.

Don’t feel bad if you don’t shoot much game for a couple years with young kids.

Had my first kid last year, this summer we did a lot of hiking around Montana. I have the Osprey POCO AG. It’s awesome, comfortable and built like a tank with a lot of padding for the kid. He rode in it for hrs and never got any rubbing spots or uncomfortable!

Thanks, good to know. I think the two front runners are the deuter and the osprey. There are cheaper models that will work, but I think getting something comfy for both users will be a good benefit in the long run.

With a c section be ready. If you're surgery is at 730, you'll be holding a baby at 731. Lol.

I heard it's kind of quick and unceremonious...but I know my wife is looking forward to not having to go through labour, trade off being the recovery time

Congratulations it'll be the most rewarding time of your life. My second (son) was just born on monday and my first (daughter) is 2. My daughter loved riding around in the pack at Yellowstone last year. She is so amazing and so much fun. I love every minute of being a dad.

I kind of know what you mean. I grew up with 3 other siblings, the youngest of which was 12 years younger than me. Something always gong on in the house.

With just my wife and me, sometimes it seems like nothing is really going on. So now we'll be going from 0-60...although our recent puppy has been a decent trainer for turning the house upside down.

I find it pretty weird that a lot of folks have kids, but when it's going to happen to you, it feels like the most special thing in the world.

Congratulations! I have boy/girl twins and a thirds boy. Lots of work heading your way but it'll be worth it. Only recommendation is get your daughter on a sleep schedule that is in her room ASAP. We have an early bed time for our kids (7 pm) and it's so worth it. The twins are almost 4 and all kids sleep 12-13 hours a night. Kid's are happier and me and my wife actually get to spend time together.

Yup, I grew up with a hard 7:30 bedtime, parents read a book then lights out. I need quite time to recharge otherwise I get squirrely after a few days.

Congrats to you both. Becoming a father was the best moment of my life. We have two children that 8 and 5, its game changer for sure.
