First Drift of the year! Steelhead

Got out today for some fishing on the South Umpqua in southern Oregon! We hooked 7 and landed 5. Only caught one hatchery and the rest were wild. The largest was a 34" buck.

Being from the southern US, I've only caught a steelhead on a business, team building fishing trip on lake Michigan. They are pretty good fighters and taste good!

It was definitely different steelhead fishing weather than what we are use too. Fish and wildlife was out trying to collect some wild fish to introduce new genetics into the hatchery. They were able to take 3 fish from us (before their boat motor broke down). It was pretty cool to have a great day on the river and get to help contribute to future fishing opportunities.
