Had to share because I’m excited. Just started trapping recently and was already starting to get discouraged. Lots of experienced trapping buddies said coyotes are the toughest animals to catch. Only been at it a couple of months, but previously all I have caught in my leg hold traps was a single skunk. I was shocked when I saw him on the line. Very proud of myself for catching this guy.

Dirt hole set, North American Trapper Mountainman bait, and seasoned with some coyote urine.

To all my fellow rookies out there, stick with it don’t give up!

Did you get pics of him working the set with that camera?

That was the idea when I set it up. I need to check it. It has like 1,100 pictures on in somehow so I need to put the card in a reader. I’m worried it might be a little too high to have caught him working it but we’ll see.

Congrats! You’ll find that they get easier and easier. Something about catching the first one feels like it cracks the code. I still vividly remember catching my first one 30 years ago, but I still get super excited every time I catch another.

Was a big thrill for me as well, for sure. Big confidence booster.

Nice solid paw catch. Looks like a MB550, a very good coyote trap.

Have you started putting up fur?

Thank you! Yeah he stepped all the way in I got him good. I believe that particular trap was a Duke Pro Series 550 OS, but My line is split about 50/50 between the Dukes Pro Series and the 4-coil MB 550 OS The MBs are nicer IMO and American made is always a big plus, but the Duke Pro Series seems to give some great bang for the buck.

I am still pretty new to fur handling but a neighbor helped me skin out the coyote today. Don’t have anything else put up at this point.
