My nephew is going with us on a region g in wyoming deer hunt. He doesnt have a bunch of extra $$ and needs some decent boots. Needs to get them pretty quick since we are leaving in 60 days. We are planning on trail hiking in 5 plus miles and staying in 3-6 days at a time depending on what we are seeing. Found a set of hanwag alaska gtx in 11.5 that is a bomb proof boot but concerned he will think its way to stiff? Any thoughts or recc? Anyone have any good used 11.5 size boots that might work for him?

I would get some Solomon 4D gtx, extremely comfortable boot that works for a whole bunch of people/feet. They are excellent for 95% plus of what most people will ever think about doing.

REI carries them, return if they leak or don’t fit.

Since 2016 or so I’ve worn out 3 pairs and now have the Forces version because they come in size 15 instead of the 4D topping out at 14.
