Finding hunting partners - app input

I see a potential business model here.

"Rent a buddy" for DIY hunts.

Think of how many guys don't want to hire a guide but would just like someone to be with them in case things go sideways. A guy could make several hundred a day to just follow a DIY guy around and keep his mouth shut and help when asked. A guide license required for this? Your not guiding, your just being paid to be there.

A lot of guys don't go by themselves because they cant afford a guide and their wives wont let them hunt along. "Rent a buddy" would be way cheaper than a guide service.

$300-$500 a day to just hang out and keep a guys wife from bitching.

"Rent a buddy" coming to an app near you. lol
Haha I’d probably pay a young fit college kid $100 bucks a day to just follow me around the mountain, not bitch, keep my wife happy there is someone to call for help when I keel over and most importantly, have a young back/legs ready for the pack out.

With one notable exception, everyone I’ve taken elk hunting has been more trouble then they are worth.

Most eastern hunters like the “idea” of elk hunting. After about day two, when faced with the reality of what kind of effort it takes to actually put an animal on the ground, suddenly they are spending all day in the tent texting on the inreach and wanting to bail to town or worse home.

With the exceptions of my sons, I’ll never take a new person elk hunting again. I’m not opposed to partnering up, but it’s going to be with someone who has actually put elk on the ground before and they are going to have their own vehicle.

Everyone has one of those stories.

A buddy of mine was in his late 60’s and took some dipshit (that I went to high school with) with him on his unit 76 archery elk hunt.

That putz bailed on him on day three.

He got a small bull 16 days later.

If someone posted on here that they wanted to help pack out animals, and they lived near where you hunt. Would you call them to help you out, knowing they were doing it to learn where to hunt?

Interesting thought. I’ve never considered you could steal a spot from helping with pack outs, but I have offered and given help dragging deer out so I could see how it was done/any tricks that were used, gauge how difficult it would be in the terrain, how the person gutted the deer, etc. Never gone back to the spots where I helped.

This nails it on the head. It's so unlikely to find a guy online, everyone instead says "make your current friends like hunting". The average man in his 30s in Denver isn't into hunting, shooting/guns, camping. At least I haven't ran into them. If they are even a little curious, one look from their wife or girlfriend makes it a big NO!

At this point, I don't even care if my fictional hunting companion hunts or have their own tags to fill. Just need another dude there to keep me honest, help pack out meat, have my back if the cannibals get the jump on me.

I think, as a standalone feature of finding a hunting buddy, you won't get enough engagement to keep it going. I see that issue in a hunt exchange website, there just isn't alot of matches because there aren't enough people in total.
I think most people's hesitation will be a lack of trust in the information provided. Having an app that is more social media-like, that has an option to be "rated" or "verified" by other users, would help. Similar to classified ratings or fb marketplace ratings. If it were more like a social media app, you could have people vouch for others that they've hunted with. I've met rok guys in the field that I would say, hey, this is a huntin mfer.
I think you would have more luck if it were more of a "sportsman" connection app. If you include fishing, bird hunting, etc, you would have a bigger user group.
I offshore fish with guys that occasionally need more guys on the boat to split gas. Years ago, one of them posted on a forum and ended up linking with guys that we still fish with today, so it is possible.
I think requesting packout help is a reasonable feature, obviously hunters on general tags hunting the same area are less likely to use it, but I've been on hunts where I would have helped out.
The sharetheland website isn't very transparent. Access seekers submit a resume and they supposedly connect you to landowners, but who knows what is going on behind the scenes and how much effort is really made to connect people.
I would make one app that could also do all this:
Swap hunts or experiences(like fishing for a hunt, etc)(like huntexchange)
Connect with landowners to swap work for access (like sharingtheland)
Connect boat owners with individuals to crew fishing trips
must be able to rate or review users
Connect tracking dog owners to hunters (location-based)
have the ability to request packout help or broke-down help(location based)
