For years I have been looking for a specific model rifle topped with a specific
Scope. As we all know when looking for a as new used rifle its hard to find even
In the proper caliber. Why I just never went out and bought a new one, I don't know why.
But today I finally got it done. A Ruger No. 1 standard , topped with a Leopold VX-2
3-9 x 40 in 7mm Remington Mag. Can't wait to shoot her , the only reason I didn't when
I got her home this evening is it was pouring rain.

A man after my own heart. I have a Ruger No. 1 7mm Rem Mag for elk - in my pic attached to this forum; a Ruger No. 1 257 Win Mag with 28" barrel for deer and Pronghorn, and lastly, mostly safe queen, Ruger No. 1 223 stainless for coyotes who come in to nail my chickens. The Ruger 1 is so well balanced and easy. I always feel safe, accurate, and cool. I'd like to get more, but not sure which calibers as the above are really all I need for anything.

A few years ago, while cow elk hunting, I was hiking back to my camp to let my doggy out for a little walk. Some guys on a side by side drove by me twice and on the second pass offered me a ride. They were all geared up with fancy spotting scope, high-end binos, and semi-auto rifles. They took my Ruger No. 1 7mm to put in their gun rack for the ride.
"Huh, a Ruger 1", one of them commented.
I responded, "Yeah, I figure if I can't down an animal with 1 shot, I shouldn't be out here."
The rest of the ride back to my camp was pretty quiet. They probably thought I was just some smart-alecky woman who has never harvested. Ha! As I wear my cow elk molar/ivory earrings today.

If or when I go back to rifle hunting, it will definitely be with a Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag. Great all around gun! I'll top it with a Leopold VX 4x12

That's a great setup! I bought a stainless Ruger No. 1 in 7mm Rem Mag 14 years ago (when I was 14) and am still loving it. I shoot deer, elk, and/or antelope with it every year, and it's a great do-it-all hunting caliber. I even took a Shiras moose with it this year. 2 years ago I decided I wanted a smaller caliber for targets, varmints, and antelope and was looking at the new popular bolt actions, but then I realized there's no reason for me to change what I know and love and ordered a No. 1 in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 28" barrel. No regrets sticking with the No. 1 after lots of targets a coyote, whitetail, and antelope. And I feel shooting them helps you be a better marksman, and really make that first shot count ( although with a buttstock shell holder reloading for a follow-up can be almost as fast as a bolt action with lots of practice). In short, I think you chose wisely.IMG_20200524_104253548.jpg
