My family will be moving from Utah to the Pinedale, WY area by August. We'll be looking at some houses over the next couple of months and will hopefully get our current home listed by end of May.

We've been up there quite a few times over the last 10 years and have dreamed of moving there for nearly as long.

Is there anyone on the forum that lives in that valley relatively near Pinedale?

Any tips on becoming a resident hunter there other than reading the regs and learning an entirely new system and area?

No tips on becoming a resident other than the obvious. I love that area and make a few trips there a year to hunt or fish. Get settled and we will meet up at Wind River sometime.

Pinedale is great. The units to the north are great elk units and you can hunt them on a general tag which are otc to residents.

365 days. At least you’ll have solid year to scout before you become eligible for instate residency. Btw, Read the regs.

Pinedale was essentially my second home from the time I was born. My parents had been spending lots of time there since the 50's. Love that area. I've been casually checking the real estate listings there for a few years. I should have been checking them 10 years ago. Good luck on the move, and enjoy the winters. :ROFLMAO:

Some condescending comments here, use’m as fuel and remember your father is the only real man that should truly want something better for you than himself, you can’t expect that from anyone else and some folks Dad’s you can’t expect it either.

Good on ya. It’s a beautiful area. A year will go by fast, the winters aren’t what they used to be, it’s a great community that holds each other accountable so anyone that wants to be an asshole gets noticed quickly and the hole is dug out of sand. The way it should be.

It isn't what it was but is still better than many other places. The winters will vary but it can be tough on the women and children - If they aren't already, get them acclimated to loving the outdoors during all seasons and you will be good.

Don't bring baggage - most residents don't care how you did it back home. Most outsiders are welcomed, eventually, but understand outside influences aren't a good thing to many long term residents.

You will love the hunting and fishing. Good luck on the move.

We moved to WY from Utah about 8 years go. No help on that area, but the biggest thing that helped me better integrate into my town was getting involved in the community. SAR, volunteer fire, ski patrol, local gun/archery club, etc. Help with brandings. It may take a little while but it'll goe a long way.

With learning the hunting regs this is what I did. I'm more of a visual learner with some things so I had to take the paper maps of the hunt areas (deer, prong, elk) and pin them up in my office area. I highlighted the limited quota vs general areas (specifically deer and elk) to better figure out where they were.

The different tag types can be a little confusing at first. Good luck, pinedale is a great area.
