Finally a 264

I finally found myself a 264. Rem 700 blued sporter fluted. Less than 150 rounds down the pipe.

My question is for those of you that have experience with these. What's a suitable whitetail bullet and elk also mulie. I'm no fan of ballistic tip or hollow point and would rather have a 120-140 preferable 140 grain. Thinking maybe accu bonds or Sierra game kings

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I had good luck with 130gr Accubond and 120gr Barnes TTSX in a 700 CDL. I didn't have as much luck with 140s, which I attributed to Remington's "slow" 1 in 9" twist. I talked to John Burns about it and he said he's done okay with 140s in a 9" twist, so give 140s a try and see what you get. With a scorcher like a 264WM I think you'll want to stay away from the soft cup and cores like Gamekings.

I've got 3 264's....and I've killed 4 bear, 4 antelope and about 20 deer and an elk with mine. I've used 130 accubonds, 140 sst's amd 140 bergers and they've all worked well...I'd try the 130 accubonds or 140 sst's. I'd suggest the bergers but u might have problems with your twist rate. U can give them a try.

Beautiful gun, love a 264. Never killed an elk with one but have killed several deer and hogs. Regular ole hornady 140 grain soft points performed best for me.

I'd look at the accubond first, then the nosler etip or barnes ttsx if you want weight retention.

How much copper fouling do you guys with the ttsx?

It is not too bad. In my rifle I never noticed any huge difference when cleaning it. (maybe I am an exception, I don't know)
I don't use aggressive solvents, I take my time and let the mild copper solvents do their job. Seems to work for me.

.264 wm is a great round I love mine. It is a unique round with it's quirks but handle right their really isn't a whole lot it can't do and do with authority.

Funny how he said he is not a fan of ballistic tips or hollow points, and most people recommend either a ballistic tip or hollow point, haha.
I will continue the trend, and say go with the 140 Berger VLD. If you really do not want hollow point or ballistic tip, I guess you are only left with soft points, in which case a nosler partition would be your best bet.

Yes huntharder I'm not. I want something that will mushroom out or expand per day and not explode on impact. I hunt thick areas at times

I just loaded 140 bergers in my 6.5 cred. Have been considering them as well for this gun. But wanted to explore other options that knowledgable people may know of

I have killed elk with my .264 using Gamekings, no problems whatsoever. I am strongly thinking about developing a load for the 130 gr Accubonds though. Terminal performance has been outstanding using them in other calibers.

Gunsmith explained that it was a problem he'd seen with recent Remingtons, especially special runs like mine. He told me they overused the tooling in an effort to save costs - if you got an early barrel you were good, if you got one made toward the end of the tool's life, you got one like mine that looked like it was scrubbed with rough sandpaper before it left the factory. I've been looking for a .264WM Sendero II but whenever I see one I don't feel like I can spend the $$

This 1 is a 700cdl. How recent you talking sir? <5 years?

Just borescoping it will tell you. The 264 CDLs were a one time special run a few years back. He told me that a quality barrel maker will only use cutting tools a very few times but I don't know what that number is. For example though, if 1000 rifles were built maybe every 10th or 15th rifle would've been the end of a tool's useful life and the next barrel got brand new tools.

Very nice rifle and the .264 Winchester is quite a cartridge. I would try a Nosler Accubond, Partition, or E-tip. Shoot in it which shoots best.
