I'm painting an old 700 plastic tupperware stock and would like to fill the hollow back end with a lightweight material (foam) mainly for noise dampening but also to give it a more solid feel.

Any recommendations on products that work well? Plenty of cans of "Great Stuff" laying around which is the default solution at this point.

I'd avoid great stuff, the expansion is too unpredictable and has too low of a density to be useful (for anything imo)
I've filled a few stocks using smooth on Foam-it.
Multiple choices on expansion and densities, mix only what you need.
Clamp the rifle to your workbench (barrel down) and get the end of the stock perfectly level. Blue painters tape around the edge of the butt stock and cover the entire rifle in a trash bag taped off very well. Pour in the foam mixture, trim flush after its cured.

Tried the smooth on 3#-cu-ft that expands 15x. Worked fine but denser would have been better. Easy enough next time. This is a sacrificial stock, original on my 270 that rides in an older McMillan.

Use a soldering iron on the inside of the stock and stipple it up to create a rough surface for material to stick to. then fill it with glass bedding material from Brownells or another gun supply store, or bondo from an auto part store. There are some great instructional videos on youtube. Just search for how to stiffen a gun stock.

I stuffed my plastic stock with plastic grocery bags. It worked great and cost me nothing!

I bought a plastic 700 stock from a guy who free floated it and then put marine epoxy on the whole thing (inside and outside). The epoxy stiffened it up till there's almost zero flex. It also took away most of that hollow sound without adding weight. Almost feels like wood even though it's just cheap Tupperware. Brought my groups down from 1.8" avg to 1.2" with cheap Winchester power points.

This for noise dampening in the butt.

For stiffening (which you did not mention, but others have) syntactic foam would be my choice. It is heavier than needed for noise dampening, but very light for its strength.

I have used West System epoxy, and by definition syntactic foam uses microbaloons as a thickener. The final product is about twice as dense as balsa wood, but at least as tough and stiff as oak. A carbon arrow shaft is actually slightly heavier for the same volume of fill.

Bedding compound is pretty heavy. Personally, I would not fill a hunting stock with it.

I use fiberglass insulation or Rock Wool , works just fine . Does nothing to strengthen it but sure sounds better than hollow.

I use wally world bags and about 14 to 15 oz of fishing sinkers .
Stuff em in hard with a long shank philips or flat tip screw driver.
Wrap the sinkers in a bag to prevent any rattle.
Some sinkers get flattened with a hammer.
Put about 3/4ths of the weight along the comb line.
Have done this on alot of semi auto shotguns
And 835 turkey guns over the years.
That extra weight in combo with a limbsaver pad will tame a shotgun down , especially a 835.
Did it with a savage MkII .22 fluted bull barrel.
And put a limbsaver pad on it for more LOP
the weight in the rear cut down on muzzle dip at the shot off bags and bench.
I seen a difference in 10 shots groups not having vertical stringing with weight added to the butt.

Plus it also get the balance of most syn stocked guns in the receiver area in the forward part of it.
Carries balanced better insted of weight forward feel from the barrel and a hollow syn butt stock.

YMMV.
