Not sure in current runs but I’ve also got R-P and Norma 7 SAUM brass, hornady 6.5 saum (not sure if they sell 7?) and I know nosler had 7 saum brass too.
Ya I have been watching and looking and have not seen those manufacturers even advertise 7 saum as “out of stock.” Maybe it’ll come back around down the road 🤷‍♂️. If I could totally have it my way (dreaming here) I’d be selecting a cartridge that has brass made by multiple middle of the road bulk suppliers and is also made by the premium boutique manufacturers.

I’m starting to look into all of the 284 win cats like the Shehane. They’re not that far south in the speed department from the short mags. It’s tough though because we all know “internet forum muzzle velocities” can be all over the road. I have my doubts on both saum and shehane velocities, which always get reported at near 7RM velocities 🤔. Idk I still have life left in my 7RM so we’ll see.

I’m still considering switching my tikka from 7 mag to 7 saum. The biggest road block is brass. ADG and Bertram are the only suppliers I know of. ADG just recently did a release of some brass and it sold out lightning fast.

7mm cartridges are kind of tough to build around. If you want to shoot the heavy pills and seat them long you’re pretty much committed to a long action. Even 7 saum with 175gr+ seated long will need a LA or at least an “intermediate length action.”

If you accept the LA deal and are happy with anticipated 7 saum velocities you might be better off looking at 280 AI. Way more brass suppliers, similar velocities to the saum etc. I think even Lapua makes 280 AI brass.

The 280 AI is a longer cartridge than saum though and will need a proper long action to seat the heavy’s long. You can cheat the action length restrictions a bit with 7 saum and fit that into a tikka length action with no drama.

Stuffing 7 saum into a short action will probably pull a lot of performance out of it. Which is why I suspect we see such varying velocities posted around.
What are you looking to accomplish with switching your tikka from a 7rm to a 7saum?
