The potential foof supply for the California Condor is incredible. Free copper bullets at the trailheads and game on.
There was an supplemental winter feeding project for Golden Eagles I learned about. I suggested feral horses as a food source but a no go unfortunately.

We do have feral horses in SW Va in Mt Rogers NRA. They have helped keep the area open vs reforested. I don't know how that has impacted native species. Wilderness designations and the expansion of pure beech tree stands vs a diverse forest seems to have hurt the whitetail population more than anything else. The situation in the west is entirely different. In the west feral horses compete directly with native species for forage. The horses need to go.

As far as eating horses goes, horse is the best tasting red meat I have ever eaten. I am not interested in eating either of my riding horses but would have no problem eating horse meat in general.
