Kind of a backwards approach to things, as most people seem to want to be connected 24/7 and wear smart watches so they are always reachable.

I’m not, I absolutely hate my phone and cannot stand it ringing constantly whether from spam calls, my employees, or people “just checking in”. I often leave it on do not disturb, silent, or just behind when I’m not going far. I have never really been able to get the “Do not disturb” feature to work as I’d like, as people can choose “notify anyways”, and my work line is an app on my cell.

The problem is a have a wife and I do feel like it’s irresponsible for her not to be able to get ahold of me in an “emergency”, even if it’s something like a dead car battery or one of our kids getting sick at school.

I’ve found out there’s an app that can automatically toggle airplane mode on and off according to a set schedule. I’d like to have my phone set so it switches off airplane mode for an hour at 8 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm. Basically, I can respond to people then, and go off grid again the rest of the time.

The Garmin watch with the Inreach function would allow her to get ahold of me whenever is necessary. I have a mini that I carry in the backcountry, normally it’s off and I just check for messages each evening.

I’m curious if the watch is capable of checking for messages automatically every 5-15 minutes, and if it will make it through a 12 hour day with that happening.

It is my understanding that it does not.
The Garmin Fēnix 8 Pro does not have a built‑in feature to automatically check for messages at fixed intervals (like every 15 minutes). Message syncing depends on whether the watch is connected to your phone via Bluetooth or paired with Garmin’s inReach satellite service, and it does not allow you to set a timed auto‑check schedule.

The Garmin website shows the features you want with the Garmin fenix 8 Pro model .. I have the fenix 8 but not the pro version.

You can do this from your phone if you have the Garmin messenger app and just not have the push notifications on? Or if you have an iPhone, have it on airplane mode until you want to satellite message
