Female sheep

I killed my Wyoming ram this past September, a beautiful, full-curl 7-year-old. My Parents and a good friend who accompanied my Dad and I on the hunt shared the meat. We all agreed that it was excellent, and wish we had more of it. For as bad as the old boy stunk when we were quartering him out we couldn't believe how good it was.
Congrats on your ram!

Two of my rams were 8 1/2 years old and the other was 9 1/2, and none of them smelled anywhere as bad as my mountain goat did.

I've heard that mountain goat is pretty mediocre to eat, but I've never had it myself. I imagine they must smell worse than my mother's breeding bucks(goats), and if that's the case, I can't imagine.

Ewe tags are challenging to get but more available.

Primary problem is the cost. Some of the ewe tags are $3500.
For that much money, I’m not really interested in a ewe tag. Would be fun to be in sheep country though.

I got lucky and drew a ram tag in 2023 and then a ewe tag in 2024. I thought my ewe tasted a lot better than my ram, although the ram was shot during the rut and the hormones might have affected things. The ewe hunt was just as much fun as the ram, if not more. I actually missed an opportunity at a ewe from getting sheep fever and shaking so much, never had that happen in my life on any other animal. That hunt was on a unit where the sheep are basically at carrying capacity. They won't move one direction into habitable areas, and they can't move the other direction towards domestic sheep.
