Feedback on bore scope

Hey y’all. Got ahold of a bore scope for the first time, and since I basically have no idea what I’m talking about, I was hoping I could gather some knowledge from some of the more experienced members.

I bought this Tikka 7mm RM from a Rokslide user a few years back. While the exterior cosmetics of the gun did not agree, I was informed that the gun was shot “less than ten times”.

Since then, I’ve put probably 80 rounds down the barrel, and wanted to take a good look to see how much build up I had.

I’ve attached a video and an image from yesterday. The image from what I can tell would be located right at the end of the cartridge neck. This is prior to having done any cleaning to the barrel.

What is everyone’s opinion on the condition of the rifle? I ask because I have a brand new barrel sitting in my safe, and wonder if it’s worth the effort to swap it out. Thanks in advance y’all.

I agree. And the barrel seems to shoot well, and accurately, far as I can tell.

This is just me exploring my curiosity and taking time to better understand my gear. I’m not itching to make any changes that aren’t necessary. I’m here to learn.

bore scopes are almost completely useless.

The rifle shoots or doesnt shoot. What you think you see in the bore has no impact if it shoots and it doesnt matter why if it doesnt shoot.

The only 2 caveats is if you are trying to clean and verifing all the copper is out. Or if you are looking for a carbon ring.

100% agree. I like to use it to more understand what’s happening inside. But not to judge if a barrel is still good or not. Can only do that by shooting it.

Agree with the prior post. The pic doesn't look bad. It appears a carbon ring is present. Besides total round count, I think how fast rounds are put through (affects barrel temp and cooling) has an impact on the cracking that you see. However as mentioned that doesn't say much with respect to how well it shoots.
