Looks like standard bolt face per that outdoor life article?
Yep. Some other interesting tidbits too - they talk about having pressure signs and trouble actually resizing the cases, but may just need to work the kinks out yet. It would have to be re-loadable for me to be interested.

Existing cartridges that major manufacturers sell are based upon SAAMI validated and approved pressures which all max out well below 80k PSI.
Can’t wait to see what people do once the brass is out in the wild. Similar to what folks have done with the fury case

We are heading into "show" season, SHOT show etc. This is where buyers from sporting goods retailers place orders for the coming year. Are buyers going to get excited by a new flavor of 280AI ammo to? Or are they going to push the go button on a new rifle/ammo/loading dies etc? Federal (or any manufacturer) isn't trying to sell to their customers, the retailers. The retailer would way rather sell a new gun, a scope, and ammo.

So they are not creating a hurdle at all. How does it increase Federal's and the retailers bottom line if existing gun owners buy a box of the new ammo? They were going to buy ammo anyway, so it would be trading one for the other. There would be zero increase in sales.
I see your point about selling to the retailers vs customers, but that only works if the package deal hype survives the scrutiny of the customers. I was at SHOT and saw the ghost towns that were the 224 valkryie and 27 Nosler releases.
The hurdle for Federal is that everyone who doesn’t own a 7mm backcountry cartridge or any future release in the line will never buy the ammo. It won’t take long for another manufacturer to sweep in with a slightly different alloy or design and flood the market with standard offerings if it truly performs as advertised. If federal does that first, I’ll try theirs. If they don’t, then they won’t see my money. There hasn’t been anything exciting in ammo for quite a while so a box that adds a couple hundred fps to any modern rifle in existence would fly off the shelves while the other brands collect dust. I doubt retailers would ignore that.

It’s interesting. Nice to see a manufacturer do something unique.

When they offer a variation with 3-5k barrel life, I’ll be more interested.

The steel case is a legit way to safely achieve higher pressure and velocity with reduced recoil.

I’ve been experimenting with the Fury hybrid case for 260AI and .308.

So far I’ve pushed a 140 grain match burner to 3236fps in a 24” barrel before blowing a soft federal 210 primer.

I’ve pushed a .308 to 3077fps with 155TMK in a 20” barrel. Extraction was still very easy at these pressures and at least on the .308 the precision was more than acceptable, maintaining sub MOA 5 shot groups while ladder testing.
I was curious about using the 277 fury for 308. I would love to hear more about this.

Also you know Hornady is plotting something. Can't wait to see what they come out with to counter
Hornady is working on a 6mm case built from a blend of depleted uranium, tungsten, and titanium. It’ll be rated to 100,000 psi and fling a 124-grain ARMR-Max bullet at 4,000 fps from 16-inch barrels. From Roosevelt elk to Russian tanks, nothing will be safe.

I’ll never own something with that level of recoil and don’t shoot with anyone who would either. I handle and shoot recoiling rifles fine I just don’t see why. There are 1500 yard elk lethal guns that kick half as much and if this season is any indication I need to be whole hell of a lot closer than 1500 yards.

That said, if this case design is truly reloadable, I would love to magically turn my 6.5 creedmoor into a prc or an arc into a 6 creed. If federals lab tested reloading procedures are reasonable that is where their money is. Any firearm chambered in a modern cartridge would be fine. I understand not making 30-06 cases available due to the huge number of rifles chambered that would explode. But a new line that includes the creedmoor and prcs etc…
What are the 1500 yard capable cartridges with less recoil?

Having lower recoil and shooting a 195 at 28 nosler speeds with a shorter barrel sound great. If they can supply reloadable steel cases it will be a winner. I'd like to know how accurate the backcountry is before investing in a new rifle.

Well dang, maybe I spoke too soon early in the thread - interesting to hear more about it. I won't be an early adopter by any means, but I'm curious to see how this does over the next year or so.

I'm turning 277 fury brass into 338 federal. I also reload the fury case as is. It's a bit easier to go up then down.

I put a 6mm-30cal expander mandrel through the fury case, then a 30-338 mandrel. Last, I run it through a full length 338 fed sizing die. Done. For 308, just do the 6mm-30 and then run it through a 308win die.

That’s how I’m expanding mine to .308. Expand neck, bump shoulder back with a body die, go shoot.

Where are you getting the 277 fury brass. I would love to get some to try in my 308

Ya, it's kind of cool. If you have a 308 sitting around, you can make it a 300wm with just some brass and a different powder.

I've just run 200gr hot core's so far for load development since they're cheap, but I'm getting 2800fps from an 18" barrel. Right there with 338wm.

I have a feeling the 7mm BC is going to be hard to impossible to wildcat(are we wildcatting if we're changing one saami case into another saami case?). And for that reason, I still like the fury better.
