I got to be somewhere between que sera sera and F it. Makes life easier.

Im not super afraid of anything. I dont care for heights but I will do them. You wont catch me rock climbing though.

I dislike spiders and centipedes, but not fear, more of a don't want them on me type thing.

The only thing that really makes my skin crawl is thinking about canthotomies, episiotomies, or snipping through the web between the fingers or toes. But, that is getting milder because I keep doing it.

Some of these depend on what is ment by fear. I guess I fear many things in the take measures to prevent them way, but phobias (irrational fears) are something I just cannot comprehend. The closest I get is trying to make myself jump from hight into water, looking down 30+ feet and my body no longer wants to respond to my will to jump. Still done it, but takes some work because I'm weak.

None of the traditional ones get to me too bad, although I have a healthy respect for things that will hurt/kill. However, with that said, I have become more afraid of not being home to help if something bad were to happen. I travel a lot for work, so I have come to believe it could happen, and it scares me.

Genuine question on this one. Do you really feel like you are in more control of your safety with everyone on the road more so than on a plane?
I would have no problem with flying if I was flying the plane, if that answers your question.

I can control my speed, times of travel, route of travel, maintenance of vehicle etc. driving.

And I understand the statistics. I still fly, I just hate it.

If it has more than 4 legs I really don't want anything to do with it.
I can't count the number of times I've woken up with a spider on me in the woods. I remember once sleeping in a floorless shelter on an archery elk hunt in a big rain storm. I kept having this sensation of sleeping on a small rock. It ended up being a big ass spider tucking up next to me out of the wet where it was warm. I started using a bivy with bug screen soon thereafter.

I am just always curious about people that don’t like it.

I just believe that the variables outside your control driving are far far more than flying.

I have a family member that’s a pilot and he always laughs when people ask him whether or not planes are safe. His response is basically “I am on the same plane as you. If it goes down, I go down. I have a vested interest in getting you to your destination safely because I also want to get there safely.”

In high school me and a friend caught a bull snake about five feet long and maybe 2-1/2” thick in the middle. We played with it for awhile and it got kind of docile when it figured out we weren’t gonna hurt it. He got the bright idea to drape it around his neck and knock on his own back door cuz his mom was scared of snakes. We felt kinda bad when she fainted and bumped her head on the door jamb, and even worse when we both got grounded for a week. My mom also didn’t think it funny.

My only real phobia is swimming in dark or cloudy water where I can’t see my feet. I know rationally there are no crocodiles or black lagoon creatures in NV. But I just have the heebiejebies the whole time and it’s zero fun. If I have to swim across dark water to get to good hunting or fishing or get laid… I’ll suck it up.

Spiders are phobia adjacent. I can catch one, squish one, brush one off my clothes or face without losing it. But surprise me with one and you’ll get to see the dance of jitter. One day I was coiling a hose on my front porch and I felt something on my arm. I looked down to see a really big shiny black widow crawling toward a hiding place in the sleeve of my tee shirt. I shook it off in a frenzy then hopped around for a minute making noises like a monkey being waterboarded. I may have squealed like a five year old girl… I dunno. Glad nobody got that on video.

Spiders...outside, not on my house, get a pass...on my house or in my house, they're going to meet their maker
Snakes...I'm not a fan, but I will avoid them if I can
Tight spaces...NOPE! I can get worked up watching cave exploring videos on YouTube or on TV
Heights...I'm not a fan of, but I'll do them if I have to

Yeah, phobia adjacent is a good description for how I feel with spiders. I don't scream or anything, but it gets a quick physical reaction if I get surprised by one on my skin. It is a little irrational now that I think about it.

I've swam in an Amazon river tributary that was so dark that a 3 foot dive made it impossible to see light even looking directly were the sun was. People were catching piranhas off the other side of the boat. The water was deep, piranhas hang out on the bottom, I figured it would probably be fine. Guess I was right as I still have all my toes.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned bees. I don’t care about snakes, spiders or much of anything else along those lines and even some bees don’t bother me. I’m talking about stepping in a nest of yellow jackets or running into a low hanging bald face hornets nest. That is simply nightmarish to me. One because it hurts to be stung once, let along 100s of times and secondly, because it would likely kill me.
The other one is chiggers. You can’t see them and don’t know anything is happened for a day or so. Then the itching starts and won’t let up for at least 5 days. One or two bites is not bad but I once had 150 to 200 chigger bites from my ankles to my neck. I literally thought about shooting myself!

I used to have a fear of the water. Nearly drowned at a summer camp when I was 11. For years I wouldn’t get in a pool or go more than ankle deep in the ocean.

I decided I didn’t like being afraid and signed up for an Ironman. Forced myself in to the water and trained like hell. Did a 2.4 mile swim in the open ocean. Now I love swimming.

My only fear now is failing as a father and husband.

Being startled by snakes is right up there. If I see a snake at a distance and I can give him a wide berth I’m pretty okay, but thinking about nearly stepping on one makes my stomach turn.
I’ve always had a decent respect of heights but it wasn’t a big deal. Till a few years ago I got myself stuck on an icy cliff ledge in the dark hiking into a glassing knob that I found on OnX. It was really really bad, ended up throwing my rifle and pack up onto the cliff above me and was using my fingernails and hooking my head onto rocks to keep from falling to a certain death. Ever since then I don’t F with cliffs.

That's how I feel about snakes, fine if I know they're coming but scare the bejeezus out of me if I don't see them. Unfortunately for me we have a garter snake nest somewhere in my back yard or one of my neighbors yards and I have a mini heart attack a couple dozen (or more) times per summer while mowing and doing yard work.
