What’s y’all’s favorite packable puffy? Temp range from 25-45.

Mostly looking for something less bulky and lighter than my fleece. Primary use would be hiking and I’d love to be able to just easily throw it in a small pack.

For most hunt temps while glassing and at “camp” (usually just a sleeping spot for me) the SG Grumann has been REALLY good!

If it’s colder than 25ish I take my Nunatak Custom puffy instead.

I have a couple. The Patagonia nano puff is the least used or used for adding layers under the Patagonia down sweater. That one is my favorite. For the size and weight it is the go to

The Stone Glacier Grumman is awesome and the hood is the best hood by far of any jacket I’ve owned.

Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer. 10.7 oz. Hands down best packable puffy I have ever owned, and I have a bunch. They recently came out with a UL version which is 6.7 oz. Very tempting.

As an outer layer cold weather sit and glass jacket?
At the temp ranges the OP suggested, absolutely. I never wear a puffy hiking or for any extended periods of activity. It’s better suited for that 35 & up temp range, less than 10 mph wind, if I had to be specific, This when talking about it being worn as the outer layer.

With proper layering you can take it down to 25 easily and lower, but I wouldn’t go below that wearing it as the outer layer. I think wind is a key factor on how a puffy performs at certain temps. It has a 10d shell which is thin to middle of the road from what I have seen. Weight to performance it is great. A windier colder day, and I would likely pull out my rain shell and put on over the top of my puffy. Additionally you add more under layers if it’s colder as well. I have done this layering method with this puffy in Alaska on two trips, one was a mid November goat hunt with single digit temps, winds 15 mph snowing and had zero issues. It’s all about proper layering.

Really anything around 10oz, 800-900 fill is going to be the winner here. I just prefer the fit & performance of this jacket over everything else I have tried thus war. I also own Sitka Kelvin Lite, Kuiu Super Down LT & a Columbia which I don’t know the model name of. The heavier jackets I have a Kuiu Super Down Pro and an old NorthFace Nuptse which is only 700 fill yet it wears like a 900+. Reason being is it has a 50d shell. Both you could use as an outer layer in single digit & subzero temps, and I have, feeling toasty warm, but they are the size of Walmart sleeping bags. Not packable.

Great thanks for the info! I’ve been looking into the MH one and it does seem like a good option! I’m considering that vs the Sg grunman. Both seem pretty packable but the grunman seems like it would be a bit warmer.

The Grumman should indeed be a tad bit warmer. 50 fill more of down and 5 d extra shell weight. All for only 1.1 extra ounces. Might need to give it a whirl as well.

I really like the EB Evertherm 2.0. Doesn't weigh much and not having all the extra stitching like other puffy jackets seems to block the wind better. Would never buy at full price though since they always seem to have sales.
