My dad and I are pretty fanatical deer hunters. We’ve slowed down the last few year as I have a herd of kids and he’s older so our tastes and needs have changed. We used to buy the cheapest hang on and sticks we could find and scattershot stands all over the country side. At one point I had 30 across multiple properties along with a few situational ladder stands and ground blinds.

Well that got to be way too much to manage as we both had less and less time. Straps would dry rot, lanes grow shut, paths disappear, seats chewed, and worst of all - a stand grows into the tree.

We’ve trimmed down the herd a lot and hang way less stands. Partially for less work but also we just got better and more efficient about where we hunt. We keep a set of pre hung stands in key, easily accessible good wind areas and then supplement with climbers and for me a LWCG 1.0.

That said the only stands I buy anymore for permanent are millennium m50. They’re like $120-$150ish? Pair it with a good stick and they’re super comfortable, don’t have seat cushions to rot and come with the quick hang bracket. They’re worth the slight upcharge from the academy or rural king special.

Side note I hate ladder stands. Call me weird but I hate how obvious they are and how they don’t blend into the woods like a good hang on. They’re very hard to put up alone. The platforms usually themselves to gun hunting vs bowhunting, etc.
