This is a question I'll never get sick of contemplating!

Current favorite is the 270 WSM...a 140 grain Berger Classic Hunter at 3300-3400 fps is lightning in a bottle. Bought my 270 WSM specifically as a mountain muley rifle...2 for 2 so far.

For timber WTs in NW Montana and N. Idaho...my .243 gets the nod...5 pound rifle, light and handy for still hunting...enough horsepower to reach out to 4-500 yds in some of those burns/clearcuts if needed, but way more comforrable inside that 300 yd range.

Rifles, shotguns, and fly rods...a man can never have too many.
I just bought a 270wsm in a kimber 8400 montana , was curious did u try the nosler accubonds 140gr in your rifle ? I bought 4 boxes at scheels still waiting on scope and mounts

Sweet rifle! I haven't shot any Nosler bullets in the WSM but if I did it'd be either the 140 ABs or 130 Etips

I like my Browning SS a-bolt2 in 308 with boss, it will shoot cloverleaf one whole groups when tuned with my handloads, very mild recoil and you can get ammo anywhere. Now second is Browning SS a-bolt2 in 3006 this does not have a boss but shoots sub. inch all day, it too is easy to get ammo. Both rifles will shoot out far enough for me, 500yd. 308 and 600yd. 3006 and both well under 1000$

Up until last year I was lugging around a hand me down 300 H&H. Great shooter, I could use 30-06 shells in it in a pinch, if I didn't get time to reload.

You can WHAT? I’ve done a lot of shooting amd a lot of reading about shooting for 40+ years and that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Can anyone point me to more information about shooting 30-06 in 300 H&H rifles? That does not sound right to me.

Weatherby vanguard series 1 chambered in 7mm rem. Simple, easy, working man's rifle that just gets things done. Can always find ammo and relatively cheap to shoot.

DO NOT SHOOT 30-06 THROUGH A 300 H&H unless you plan on taking a trip to the E.R.!

I like my old browning A-bolt .270 with Remington core-lokts.

The 30/06 in a 300 H&H thing sounds sketchy

For me it’s a .25-06 with a 120 grain projectile. I’ll say though this caliber is standard issue for our family.

Currently I shoot a Tikka 7mag for everything. 162 grain eldx. I’ve been really happy with it and no animal has ever gone far after getting hit. I’d be interested to learn more about the 6.5 prc or the 7-08.
