Your first deer rifle?

Aa a broke 20 something I invested $130 on a Norinco SKS. I proceeded to turd it up with a folding Zytel stock and receiver mounted scope mount that cradled a pristine $39 Simmons. I could hit a milk jug at 100 yards sometimes with it. The first deer I killed with it I completely missed and the deer just looked at me. I figured "well, if you're just going to stand there ....". The second shot somehow found the vital zone that time and got some meat in the freezer.
My sister in law used a paratrooper SKS for years and most deer took 2-3 shoots. My current main deer rifle is a Ruger American in 7.62x39. Love it. It’s very accurate and I’ve taken many deer with it over the years.

.50 caliber traditions muzzleloader. Muzzleloader season in VA ran long before and after rifle season. My dad bought me a muzzleloader first, which I was able to hunt with through rifle season. I killed a lot of deer with a muzzleloader before I ever killed one with a rifle. I actually grew quite a fondness for muzzleloader hunting because of this.

I killed my first deer with a T/C muzzleloader 45 cal shooting a patched round ball.

The first rifle was a Ruger 77 tanger chambered in 220 swift

What was your very first deer rifle?

Mine was a mossberg 500 410ga with a smooth bore barrel and iron sights. It’s a great grouse gun but not a deer killer. 2 minute of deer isn’t really good for me.

My very first rifle was handed down to me from my grandfather, which was a Win 94 in 30WCF. Up until me receiving this rifle I’d been hunting 8-9years and had only shot a fawn. Within 3 days of owning it I shot two bucks.

I love that rifle but it’s become more of a safe queen these days. I’ve come up spicy load using the Hornady 140gr Monoflex and leverevolution that I’d like to try one of these days.
When I was 12 years old I inherited my granddad's 444 Marlin. It was a bit much for a little kid, but a good rifle for the thick woods I hunt in.
