A quick 3 round MV test today to see what H4350 produces. Berger 105 VLD, 40.6 gr H4350, Federal 205 Match SRP. 2,827 fps. avg. Berger data says max is 41.1 gr. Not going to bank on this, but I think it is a fair indication.

My load is 42.4 grains of H4350 with berger 108 elite hunters at 3050 fps.

@mtnwrunner , what’s your experience or results summary with the 108 Elite Hunters on deer &/or antelope? Do they fragment or stay together? I’ve got 1 partial box of 6mm 105 VLD & can’t find more available now, but I do see some 108 EH availability. Thanks.

The 108 fragments very well as they are designed to do. It's a very accurate and devastating bullet. 1800 fps is the recommended minimum for reliable expansion and my load
is 1845 fps at 1000 yards.

How would you compare the terminal performance of 108 ELD-M with 108 Elite Hunter?

I have not personally shot the 108 eldms but I would guess they would have most of the same if not all of the terminal performance of the berger.
I have, however shot a fair bit of animals, deer/elk with the 147 eldm and they have all done very well.......6.5 creed, 6.5 prc and 6.5 x 284. I'm a big fan of the match terminal ballistics including the tmks.

@mtnwrunner , I MV’d the 105’s VLD Hunting today at 41.5 gr and 42.0 gr. 5 shots each and surprised to see little difference with avgs. at 2,906 & 2,905 respectively (go figure …).

No pressure seen on either. I am shooting a new 20” Bartlein heavy varmint barrel so I’m giving up some fps. It’s shooting really great .3 to .6 mean radius groups, but I wish I were at least at or above 2,950. Think I should tweek it one more time with 42.4 gr +/- , or be satisfied with the 2,900’ish I’m getting now? (Hornady data says a Max of 42.4 for their 105 BTHP…. closest published data reference I’ve found.). Thanks.

Does 2900 fps get you to your planned max range with sufficient velocity?

If yes, then stick with it (or load 41.7 to split the difference).

Since your barrel is “new”, you may find it speeds up some as you put rounds through it.

Thanks. Yes, on the charts/tables it easily gets the Berger prescribed 1,800 fps well out to 800, but falls below 1k ft-lb right at about 600. Plan is to velocity true the load (in October) and try to keep real shots on game 500 or less. With 600 values established then I won’t be cutting it close & can extend a shot a little longer if needed.

I’ll probably split the difference, and yes it’ll likely speed up. I have a 6.4-284 that’s fairly new and it recently sped up on its R22 load. Plus, plan also is to put my can in it & leave it. 👍

I’m almost through a barrel with h4350, and have had much better results running it slow. Fairly low density charge at 39g. Surprisingly my last sd on a 10 shot zero confirmation was 3.

H4831sc would likely do me fine for the velocity that has been a little more reliable.

@Lawnboi , a barrel life w/H4350 is good supportive reinforcement for H4350. Thanks. I’m assuming your target/competition shooting since you’re almost through a barrel. 👍

H4350 for all the creedmoors. All I have so far is 22CM, 6MM CM AND 25CM and they love H4350.
H4350 & 105 VLD’s. Checked several powder weights with incremental increases, got over the 42gr mark without issues, & settled in on 42.4 gr. running at just under 3K fps with excellent results/groups (in an underground 100 yard tunnel) . Will punch it on paper outside at distance this Friday to verify.

You lost me at underground shooting tunnel…. I’m officially jealous! LoL

In all seriousness though, that’s great to know. I have a 6MM CM being built at the moment and am going with the Berger 105VLD Hunting as those seem to have the highest BC of the bunch.

My 6CM is built & just a few weeks old. Also suggest you plan on getting several boxes of Hornady 108 ELD-M’s ammo to get shooting soon as you get your rifle. Seems like a whole bunch of folks agree that for whatever reason they shoot great straight out of the box out, mine included.

We have a local gun range that has an underground 100 yard range. 3 side by side tunnels with electronic targets shooting off comfortable benches. 15 mins from home. It’s been great for MV testing & group testing this summer when it’s been mid 90’s degrees outside & a 2+ hour drive to the outdoor range I usually shoot at.

This is my 6.5-284, not the 6CM.
