I am copying and pasting part of this from my post in the elk hunting forum because I’m open to both moose and elk. We’re just really looking forward to taking a step towards adventure hunting.

I’m looking for an outfitter for my 16 year old son and myself for next fall. I’m not looking to DIY, we have never moose hunted and have limited on time to scout as well as having a farm to up keep etc. I would like to hunt them in the rut. He has killed whitetail, hogs, bear, turkeys all on his own so we’re both competent hunters. We’re just inexperienced when it comes to moose and the time is worth more to me than the money. So I would greatly appreciate any and all recommendations and please feel free to dm me if you would prefer to share that way. Thanks in advance!

Depends on your budget where you want to hunt. Without any points to draw western states will be impossible to draw a tag. Alaska and the Yukon are going to be expensive . Alberta, British Columbia, and Canada are possible, but still pricey. My son and I are going to Newfoundland in 2026. Little more affordable and tags are a given with an outfitter.

Do you mind if I dm you?

As others have said Newfoundland is a reasonable hunt and prices vary depending on how far you want to get away from roads. My dad and I have a hunt booked in 2026 there and definitely looking forward to the trip. If you have any questions on what I found while researching, feel free to DM me.

Find an OTC outfitter in Colorado, no need to draw!
That would be fine, I would be happy with an over the counter tag or paying for a landowner tag. I don’t really care about shooting a big one, we just want to be in elk. I open to any state, I would just prefer to get insight from folks with first or second hand knowledge.

My son and I just returned from a northern Alberta moose hunt where he shot his bull from 517 yards with a new 7 backcountry. The outfitter was Frank Martens: Top Notch Outfitters in La Crete, Alberta. We drove up and back from Oregon. 305# of super clean meat and a Euro mount for my son's new house. Frank took great care of us. The accommodations and food were great and the experience of watching my son make that incredible shot was priceless! This was a 1x1 guided hunt and I went along as an observer. Highly recommended. Under $10k including licenses and taxes. Frank has one or two spots available next year I think. Message me if you want more details about our experience, or contact Frank via his website.

Thank you for info!!!

I went with Kawdy Outfitters in September 2025 and it was not a good experience. It definitely didn’t live up to all the hype about opportunities. 10 days of hard hunting, zero big bulls seen and only a few smaller ones spotted. From my own experience and what I learned, the success rate that they tell you, does not appear to be truthful. I know some have had good hunts with them, but that was not even close to what I experienced. They never pre-scouted the area I was taken to so no surprise we never saw any big bulls, and very few smaller ones. To me, it just seemed that their only priority, getting your money and booking another client. Colin only said a couple of words to me when I arrived and again when I was ready to fly out. Never got the impression that he was all that disappointed my moose hunt was so poor. I felt like much more could have been done to make it a successful hunt. Drove an empty freezer up there and drove an empty freezer back.

I am going to suggest you go to Newfoundland for moose and contact Roberts Outfitting out of Deer Lake Newfoundland. I did 5 hunts with them over the last 10 years or so and it is by far allot easier than Alaska. You are required to have a guide as a non resident there but it is also allot cheaper than Alaska even with a guide. One thing I have to tell you though you most likely cannot just book for next year anywhere possibly 2027 you can. Also never take the last week as they are most likely done with the rut and will not respond to calls.
