As a father of 3 who all play ice hockey, the disrespect is too prevalent. I am sure the same parents would not support another parent belittling their teenager on the ice for missing a call. I know it's in all sports and activities however some parents need to grow up.

There does need to be more done, a long jail sentence, not just a fine. I still don't think it would help. People have just gone batty.

Look at the way the Congress men and women are acting over DOGE. Look at their faces, body language, etc. These are supposed to be the cream of the crop and our representatives?
Actually those on the hill are mostly the leftovers/rejects from the corporate world.

Last night at my son's varsity HS basketball game... officiating was bad but no worse than usual... dead ball time out... this little old woman (grandma of one of the players) storms onto the court & charges the refs & gets up in their faces & screaming at them. SRO & a couple other guys have to grab her & remove her from the building. Never seen that before.

In Oklahoma women’s wrestling has become a big thing. One of the best teams in the state had their season ended due to a parent that could not keep from fighting other parents. I love youth sports!

Youth sport are great, less some of parents. We once had a game stopped because one of the mothers would not stop screaming at the ump. They would not resume play until she was removed from the grounds. As it should be, and they should be banned from all games there after.

I reffed all through college to pay my way and a couple years after. Legit school sponsored weekday stuff was OK, but weekend tournaments took thick skin and almost a sense of humor. That’s where all the future pros and parents trying to live old glory days through their kids spend their weekends apparently. If you’re the type of person that often complains about officiating, make sure you get out there and give it a try! They’re always looking for people - especially now! All leagues should have a rule sheet signed at the start of the season: any parent fighting or displaying excessive heckling will get the option of their child being removed from the league or the parent volunteer officiates for a month.

I hope my boys just want to ski, hunt, fish, and trap.

I was never more happy when my boys chose cross country and track. In 4yrs there has only been one instance when I would say a 4x800 team got disqualified and shouldn't have. Cost them the state win. But wasn't anything to do with our schools team. My youngest son decided to play bball this year. I would say that 99% of the officiating is pretty good. Once is a while you can tell they just miss a call. Only a couple of times does it seem intentional. And that seems to happen when a kid has a chip on their shoulders and being disrespectful. The spectators are a different story. It gets ROUGH

Asshole sports dad survivor myself. Reading this kind of thing makes me feel embarrassed for the kids of these types. Happiest saddest day of my life is when I took shoulder pads and cleats off for the last time and didn’t have to watch no talent adults live vicariously through their children anymore.

Yeah it was all the talk between parents last night at our practice, i don’t care if it’s my kid or not I don’t get how he was able to walk off the ice without a single parent confronting him.

Haha. Facial expressions at a congressional oversight hearing vs a parent assaulting children at a youth hockey game. I think you might be reaching on this one.

I've seen it in little league and kids soccer where out of control parents throw a fit embarrassing themselves- while scaring the kids but there is no way a parent assaults a kid without the parents intervening- that dude that attacked kid refs would have been punched in the face.

One of the best of these stories of this kind of thing I know of was a High School football coach berating a kid for dropping a pass in front of the whole team....to the point where he had the kid in tears. My buddy, a huge guy and ex NFL linebacker was right there and had enough from this coach that always claimed, " its All about the kids"

He put his hand on the coaches shoulder and started squeezing- hard. The coach started turning red....and was almost to his knees and turned away from the kid when my buddy let him go.

I ref hockey and have been doing it for over 20 years. I stopped doing kids games because of all the BS directed at the officials, the kids and each other. It was getting stupid. Now I just do beer league, which is isn't a whole lot better, but at least I can tell them where to go and then kick them out. In one league, they band the parents of U13 and U15 rep hockey games because they couldn't get anyone to ref the games. The kids played a whole year without anybody watching. Apparently it worked.

Cheers

I coach 12U softball for my daughter's team. Last fall we had an opposing male coach try to fight one of the mom's on our team after we won a tournament. He even tried to block her car in when she left the fields. He was put on probation but I wish he was banned from all future tournaments.

Look at them at the doors to dept. Of ed. How about calling out Musk in the streets? I don’t think that is reaching at all.
