Fatal mountain lion attack Colorado

Crazier story or coincidence. My buddy has land real close to crosier. He was hunting the PLO buck tag and told me he glassed two big cats right at dawn… unironically on opening morning of lion season, Monday post 4th season closure, about 200 yards off. He just watched them since he didn’t have a tag…

Yea isn’t that wild. People are insane. If these idiots only knew how many lions CPW killed on a weekly basis in Colorado because of conflicts they would loose their minds

Most mtn lion attacks on humans aren't successful in terms of the intended outcome. So, on that front, you have an attack and you have a "successful" attack. Reportedly, cats don't like a fight so, if they don't land deliver a lethal attack on the first attempt and there is resistance, they tend to give up. So I've read, at least. I was using the term "successful" in relation to the outcome of actually being killed. Attacks are more common than "successful" attacks/kills. From what I'm reading, 15% of mtn lion attacks on humans are successful.

Understood. Replace “killed” with “attacked” and it makes sense.

I took the online class. Half the time I can tell with 90% confidence when it’s a tom. When are we going?

Saw a video couple years ago of a cat killing a pretty nice 4x4 male deer. It was not fast. In fact, it was pretty horrifying.

It does highlight how misguided the Prop 127 attempt to eliminate mountain lion hunting was. Even more concerning is the fact that many of the Prop 127 proponents sit on the Colorado wildlife commission.

How many is it?

Local game warden has cat issues in a weekly basis. Last time I talked to him he had removed 5 just out of one neighborhood

If you ever attend the CPW yearly auction you will see a couple hundred cats there and bears

As someone who has been chased by many cougars, I can tell you: it is neither quick or painless.

In fact, aggressive cougars are whole reason I can't go back to Twisted Mike's Tavern anymore.

This female was caught about 100 yards from my shooting bench. 7 hours after I got done zeroing a rifle solo. She was one of 6 caught within a half mile. Several on cameras didn’t get caught.

Statistically you might have a higher chance of being killed by lightning, but I don’t think I’d put lion encounters out of the question of real possibilities.

Those statistics aren't very accurate... I always hear that about sharks (I live in florida) well my chances of getting ripped apart by a bull shark are much higher while swimming in the gulf but these numbers get skewed when you add the population of the entire united states even though 99% of them will have 0% chance of encountering a shark. same goes for lion / bears whatever. Your chances are way high if you live in an area with them and spend time in the woods.

In about 10 years when I get some time back haha. Oh and without dogs anything that isn’t a kitten is getting shot haha couple hardo’s on here call them in or cut tracks without dogs, sounds like a lot of fun but also a lot of cardio

Any idea what CPW uses to bait the traps? Deer meat?

In the case of my neighbors they just threw in the remainders of the sheep carcass it had killed the night before.
