25-284 is my number one contender right now. How does the 133 fit in the pbb chamber and at what coal? Also what are you using for dies?

Gosh I don't have my numbers handy at the very moment but the bullet couldn't fit more perfect. With the top of the boat tail at the neck/shoulder junction the bullet is kissing the lands. I have mine seated .025 off. I'm using redding 25-284 dies and it made it a simple 1 throw to size down from 6.5-284

Had mine on a Tikka action.
PBB #1 sporter 1-7.5 twist, 24". Standard 25-06.
Built for heavier-than-standard monos, but shot the 128gr Hammer Hunters around 3000.
Blackjack ACE 131 at 3100.
110 Hammer Hunter at 3250.

I dont know I would reccomend you build one unless you have 300-400 pieces of norma 7mm blaser brass which has been discontinued.

West Texas ordance is doing a 25-7prc which will be my next 25 cal that I spin up. Similar to the blackbird at 3240 fps on 133 gr bergers.

I dont have any yet. I have a white tail doe permit hunt this fall. I might pack it along for the 30 tags. Its pretty hard to get that 6mm creed / 6.5prc tikka out of my hands though.

I tried like hell to make it work but consistently slow for me. At like pressures h1000 had 100fps over 4831sc. I have room for powder when I hit pressure with h1000, if I were to try anything else it'd be retumbo or 570

I was afraid that would be the case with the heavy bullets. I wonder how the Winchester staball hd would do

No idea. If you try one of the two I listed you should try it alongside the h1000. H1000 is extremely accurate with the load I have so I don't want to tinker.

H1000, n570, n565, rl26, retumbo all worked about the same in my 25-284 with the PBB reamer. Went with h1000 for barrel life and overall accuracy but they were all pretty close.

With all the 06 length actions out there, why do we not see more 25-06’s sporting twisty new barrels? Seems like an easy button. Too boring? I don’t understand all this necking up and down and Sherman SAUM biz when the wheel has already been invented.

Can't speak for others but for me going 25 SAUM to shoot the 133/134/135's was about good velocity potential and building it on a short action. I briefly considered a 25-284, also would have been built on a short action and equal to performance to a 25-06, but wanted to push those heavy for caliber 25 cal bullets a little faster so I decided on the SAUM case.

Nothing wrong with the 25-06 but brass quality definitely favors the other cartridges that have Lapua or ADG brass available for the parent case and that's most likely why you see more of those others and not so many 25-06's.

Ok, that does make sense. Didn’t realize there wasn’t any good brass available. That’s an issue. Are mag length limitations real with 135 ish gr bullets when factory 30-06’s shoot 180+? I haven’t done the math. And I’m honestly asking as I’ve considered a fast twist 2506 with one of my 30-06/270’s sitting in the safe.

There certainly wouldn't be any mag length concerns with LA Rem 700 or 700 clones with a 25-06 slinging the heavies and you could even neck down Lapua 30-06 brass but having a 6-06AI and 6.5-06AI, both using Lapua 30-06 brass, it involves a good amount of extra work necking down and depending on the neck diameter of the reamer used potentially some neck turning work as well.

I had a 25-06 1:7 and a 25-284 1:7.5…in the end it didn’t offer much over my 25 creedmoors. Don’t like brakes can’t shoot suppressors (about 6 hours north of you), so I like 26” tubes. 2910fps with the creedmoor cases is plenty, the extra 100-200fps wasn’t worth the recoil.

I’d like to do a 25-06 with a fast twist as it’s probably my favorite cartridge ever. Only thing I’m worried about is running out of length in the tikka mag/action I want to use. That’s why I want to go with the 284 so i can get similar performance and still fit in a factory tikka mag. Brass is another thing as hornady is about the best you can find. You can use good 30-06 brass but then you’re back in the same boat of necking down.

You are absolutely right on the tikka mag issue. 25-06 is too long, you end up .07 or so from the lands at mag length with saami spec reamer. 25-284 fits perfect with the blackjack reamer and it’s an easy neck down from 6.5-284 lapua brass. I necked down 30-06 lapua to 25-06 but it requires neck turning.

I still think 25 creed is a better option unless you need a really short barrel and need to kill beyond 700 yards.
