Had an amazing time out in Montana at Shawns with my wife and kids and Mike. The view was absolutely amazing and there was wildlife everywhere. First evening started out with a short walk to where they were bedded down. Jodi sat back with the kids and they played around at the truck We snuck out and peaked out over the knoll and saw them bedded down below. The suppressed 7 mega and 300 wsm barked and we got some cows down quick from 200-375 yds. All broadside and hit at the crease to save meat. Got em quartered and packed out in short order. The next morning Shawn, Jodi and I set out up the mountain with Mike staying back in camp w the kiddos. We saw some elk further down the mountain than expected so we got out and circled around them to try and cut em off. Got up top a bit and couldn’t find em. Jodi and I sat on a knoll while Shawn went back down to grab the truck. Jodi and I looked around admiring the view and taking some pics. Right after I got done showing Jodi some tips for the tripod a part of the group stepped out at 200 yds and she shot a dried up old cow that ended up quartering to us slightly. She took 10 steps and rolled down the hill a little bit. The 25 max with 133 Berger’s were devastating. We were able to load her up into the truck with a short drag down the hill. We wanted to get the kids in a pic with one. We started to question that plan after struggling for a few to get her in the truck but eventually wrangled her in there. Made it back quick and threw the kids and Mike in for a quick group pic before quartering her out and throwing it all on ice and then into a freezer. Went into town and took the kids to a train museum and the park. After that we headed back to camp and had an amazing dinner with fresh inner loins, heart and potatoes. Next morning we got all cleaned up and headed back home. The ride home was just like the one out. Sprinkled with visits to local parks every few hours so the kids could stretch their legs and lose some energy. Thank you Shawn for the amazing views, experiences we wont ever forget, amazing hospitality and allowing us to fill the freezers with some incredible meat. We can’t wait to be back in Montana in the future.
