Family summer trip out west

I would not haul the kayaks. UNless you are going to kayak for multiple days , it makes more sense to rent whatever you might need for an adventure

Kayaks would be fun along with UTV but UTV stays home more of a headache and worry to haul it for how much you would probably use it. (Save on gas mpg too) Kayaks might be doable but like said above if you got a spot yu think of going Dillon Reservoir for instance call ahead to see if they hafe any to rent. CO and doing some of the easier mountain passes would probably a fun/good time. I70 anymore though just scares me not because of the drive but one accident and you are sitting in a parking lot. I still love CO but have seriously considered started thinking about exploring WY.

Don’t do anymore driving than necessary, it’s an easy mistake. Stay at a dude ranch in or around NW Wyoming for a week. You can relax, horseback ride, meals are taken care of, you can fish, hike, and make trips into Yellowstone from the ranch. This is my plan for the family anyway!

MT would be the furthest if we could stretch it.
CO is a straight shot from us on I70, about 24hrs to where elk hunted in past.

Was thinking of driving straight to CO. Stay around CO Springs for a day or 2, head through WY to SD and back. Just talking out loud. My daughter graduates high school in 2 years, so the "family" trip like this may not be the same. So would like to experience as much as possible.
Why spend any time around Colorado Springs?? I've lived in Colorado all my life. Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP South Rim is a great one day trip on your way to The San Juan Mtns which are probably the most beautiful Mtns in Colorado. There are lots of UTV trails that will get you above timberline for a unique experience.
