A couple weeks ago made it out for fall turkeys and decided to check out the recent burn area. I didn't expect to see much this soon after the fire as the area was scorched and most the aid the area looked like moon scape. After a hike in i let out some hen assembly calls on my slate and was suprised to get a response from a hen 200 yards away on a burnt ridge. I saw a group of burds closing in fast so I sat up. The group yelped the whole way in and the jakes in the group even gave out a gobble. Waiting I realized my hands and face stood out so I quickly dulled my skin with some burnt bark and dirt. The birds came into 40 yards and with no decoys, they gave the area a short look then began veering away. I found an opening I guessed at 50 yards and as the last jake stepped into it I yelped and he stopped... The arrow was on its way and ran right through his goodies.....
