When you watch videos, if you see a clear bluish “gel” is fake/synthetic. It does not replicate tissue. It’s kinda similar, but it is not “ballistic gellatin.”
It’s being used by many you tubers because it is cheaper and easier to deal with. They can melt it down and repour it. They don’t know it is fake or don’t care. I certainly don’t hear them explain why it isn’t the technical FBI version.
The yellowish FBI 10% ballistic gellatin is like jello we eat and made from water and 10% “jello” dry powder. It has to be cooked then cooled. Like jello, it has to be kept cool to work appropriately and simulate tissue.
That is the “FBI 10% gel” and it has was chosen because it was as close as a scientifically replicable medium could come to actual tissue.
Even that has its limits because no tissue is consistent like that. They can’t replicate tissue. There is muscle, fascia, ligaments, tendons, and organs. There is blood inside vessels and capillaries. There is lymph fluid. There is fluid inside of cells. There is blood and air inside lungs. There is blood inside the heart. There is intracavity fluid.
Here’s some links and a video showing the practical difference and specifics of how gelatin is kept cool is tested.
From @Bowfinn in another thread. Posting it so I can find it easier and it’s an interesting thing to know.
