Factory long range rifle suggestions

First choice would be a Tikka in .22 creed, 6 creed or 6.5 creed, his choice. Haven't checked EuroOptic lately but I'd start there for a T3x. As much as it pains me to say this a Ruger American gen 2 in the same calibers at around $550 is a lot of gun for the money. Dump what he saves into a quality scope.

Hi guys,
I am pretty new to Rokslide but thought I would send out a question to you guys. My son's friend wants to purchase a rifle to get into some long range shooting with my son and I . He is probably in the sub $1000 range for the rifle any suggestions?

Used Remingtons show up regularly on the used gun rack in near new condition for $350, replacement 2-1/2 lb trigger for $150, steel bases and basic steel rings for $150, soft case for $75, and tall Harris style bipod for $150. Have had a lot a big smiles over the years using that recipe when a kid new to shooting can get a rifle before lunch, we’d mount a scope and he would be sighted in and ringing the 400 yard gong by late afternoon. Other combinations work, but this is the no brainer easy peazy route that always works well.

A rear bag to practice with sewn from the leg of old blue jeans and filled with kitty liter will be as steady as any fancy light weight bag and cost $1.99 or whatever generic kitty litter goes for. A moving blanket from harbor freight is a dirt cheap shooting mat.

Many guys force kids to shoot heavy factory triggers while a better trigger is probably the quickest way to decrease group size 1/2 MOA. For one new shooter struggling to get 2-1/2 MOA with a heavy trigger, he dropped to 2 MOA with my rifle on the trigger alone, which makes a big difference on hit rates for that 400 yard gong.
