I validated my velocity today at 700 yds.

Rifle: Tikka 6.5CM factory 24" barrel
Ammo: factory 147ELDM

I was hitting my waterline at 19.5 MOA(I Know "UsE miL, iT's EaSiEr"

I used Strelok and the Hornady app and adjusted my velocity until the adjustment matched and it gave me a velocity of 2560fps at the barrel. This seems super slow to me. Does anyone have some other data to share? I was really consistent with impacts on the waterline so I am confident in the come-up value.
Thanks

Mine would call for 18.6 with the environmentals I have input.

My 24” rifle was more like 2800

But just double check all your other inputs and shoot more.

If that’s the velocity that’s just it.
Every barrel is different.

I am pretty confident in all of my environmentals. I used a kestrel to find the temp and used a DA chart for Strelok. I started at 17.5 at first and saw low and walked it all the way up to 19.5 to where I was pretty centered on my hits on the waterline.
The hit on my finger was a hit on 19.25.Its a 12in plate.
Even my misses due to wind were right on the same elevation and I would correct left or right.

Okay, thanks, so I'm not crazy haha. Box says 2695 and I started at 2640 but wasn't working. I have heard tikka barrels are slower but thats over 100fps so I figured I'd ask around.

Gunwerks loaded 147s are going 2530-2550 out of my 18” Sig Cross.

Tikkas can be a little on the slow side.

It isn’t just Tikka, Hornady ELD-M ammo is often slow. Some lot#’s are faster, most are not.

I bought 300 rounds of the same lot # 147eldm ammo, it’s been a touch over 2600 since I’ve now got about 400 rounds on the barrel. A bit slower when the barrel was fresh.

These are shots from boxes #9-10

I feel like my barrel has slowed down too. Last year my speed was higher, like a little above 2600. I have approximately 800 rounds through it now.

Its the ammo. They change powder. Reload and get a chrono. Problem solved!

Hornady box velocity numbers are absolute garbage honestly. I wouldn’t even be looking at them.

The “Tikkas are slow” goes back to when they used slower twist rates for popular cartridges for a while.

A 20” 8 twist Tikka barrel isn’t any faster or slower than an aftermarket 20” 8 twist Tikka prefit.

One of the fastest .224 barrels I’ve used in the last 10 years is a current 16” 8 twist blued tikka 223 factory gun.

I may have typed that wrong, but my barrel has sped up. It was slower until I got 100+ rounds on it. All the same lot of ammo. 24” barrel was about 50-75fps slower when gun was new about year and half ago now.

There is always variability with Hornady ammo across a lot cartridge/calibers I’ve tried. I was trying to drive home that the lack of velocity is t surprising.

Barrels don’t slow down. Not from what Ive seen. Works in the opposite direction.
