Exo K4 Size 7-10 Day Goat

5000 too small w/cold weather bag and cold weather gear + 10 dd food and optics. 7000 minimum. I'd go 7800-ish. You can always make your bag smaller by strapping it down.... but if you choose too small, you'll be pissed. Borrow a 5000 bag and try stuffing your gear, food, optics, kill kit... absolutely no way you'll hit 10dd.

Weight difference between 5000 and 7000 class bags is essentially nothing. Couple ounces. Pissed off difference when you want to pack for 10dd and realize you're maxed at 7dd? Extreme.

7200 iit is!
Goat is a 26 hunt.
Have SG solo 3600 currently that is definitely not up to the task.
Wanting to run a new pack on this years elk & moose hunts setting up for next year
Thanks

I think the exo bags carry a little small for their posted sizes. I used the 5000 for 2 seasons and it was barely big enough for a weeks worth of food. Compared to my friends 5000 eberlestock bag is seems like he could pack twice as much stuff in his. I just upgraded to the terretrorn.

7200 is a beast size wise, pretty easy to fit a kit in there for that durations, even with all of the food. The diameter is larger and that top collar on that pack really holds a ton. I’d do that every time for anything over 5 days.

It depends on you body size and packing style.
Steve at Exo swears a 3600 is enough for every thing.
But he’s a smaller framed guy and a very diligent packer.

But with me running a wide sleep system and 2xl clothing. And an open the pack and just shove crap in mentality. It’s 7200 all day for me.
I did like 4 days in a 5k last yr and I thought I was gonna rip a bag seam.

And I’m a pretty minimalist packer.
Just big gear.

Have a 7-10 day goat hunt in early September and trying decide between the 5000 and 7200

Thanks

I’ve used all the K4 packs for the last couple of years for multi-day backpack hunting trips- including sheep hunts. If you are not a true minimalist packer (and almost no one is), the 5000ci pack is not remotely large enough.

The 7200 is, but it is poorly designed when it is actually loaded out. On top of that, you either use the full main bag- which then makes the side zipper pockets useless. Or, you use the side sipper pockets and loose internal space.

For reference:

7200 with 7 days worth of gear loaded exactly how it had to be to hunt with it:

Bluntly a total cluster…
