EXO K4 Now or Wait for the EXO K4X

I’m supposed to get mine delivered tomorrow. I’ll be able to weigh it and my existing k4 - both with 5,000 bags. I’ll post weights of full setups on both.

Greatly appreciated.

If you have the time and don't mind the effort, the frame to frame and bag to bag weight differences would be nice to know.

The frame should be about 6 oz. lighter; and I'd expect the difference in 5000 bags with their respective lids to be around 8 oz. - this being the prototype bag of course.

Find with anyone sharing details on what they receive, but everyone needs to know that these proto weights are not final production weights.

I’m curious - on the back end of this prototype process when Exo makes final production improvements to the system based on user feedback… do the early testers end up purchasing another system, or are the prototypes swapped out for final production product?

Pretty sure they said they would be giving a discount to purchase final rendition bags as a prototype frame tester. I assume we just keep the one we got and can buy more bags

I am under the impression that I purchased a product and, shy of that product exhibiting any defects that warrant replacement or repair, this is what I will be keeping. I'm confident that if the prototype products do exhibit any significant shortcomings, Exo will make design changes to the final product and make it right with the beta testers (I.e. if it needs different buckles, they'll send new ones out. if it needs reinforcement on seams, they'll pay shipping both ways and reinforce them where needed, etc.).

I do not expect a discount on the final version - we aren't "taking one for the team" - we are getting early access a full hunting season ahead of anyone else. That is what we signed up for.

I believe it was mentioned that the price of these prototypes is essentially at cost or just above cost. So we are receiving a significant discount already, in addition to having access earlier than the general consumer

My understanding is they are actually losing a little money on each prototype they send out.

Agreed on all of the above and my question wasn’t intended to suggest those who signed up for K4X proto testing have been wronged in some way… quite the opposite.

The question still remains. Assuming some beneficial updates occur between prototype version and final production, are testers able to get their pack updated, or do they simply purchase the production version and sideline or try to sell their proto system?

I’m 99% certain there won’t be any catastrophic failures even in proto stage given all of the time Exo put into getting to this stage. My assumption is minor tweaks will result. Just curious how Exo handles this for testers wishing to get into the production version once released.

The pre-order interest and information page clearly states that testers of the prototype will get a discount if they purchase any production k4x pieces in 2027.

It also states the prototypes will be covered under their lifetime guarantee and will be fully compatible with future K4x products.

No mention of what they'd do if there are major issues found with the prototypes, but i highly doubt there will be any. They've already done a boatload of testing.
