EXO K4 Now or Wait for the EXO K4X

Anyone gotten confirmation or anything back after filling out a pre order interest sheet?
Nothing. I asked them about cutting down the frame to 24 since I’m only 5’6 and if they are gunna offer a 22-23.5 in the future. No response yet.

I’m wanting a new pack for this season. Will see what happens with the pre order forms I guess.

Have you used a K4 previously? I’m the same height with a 19 1/2” back and the 25” stays are perfect for load carrying for me, in order to maintain the proper load lifting angle. Only case I can see using a shorter stay length is for a day pack.

No talking to them based on my hieght, weight and inseam they recommend a 22-23.4 in a small for the k4. Gotta try one out from a buddy and see. I run small / med mystery ranches and they are a smidge to big imo. Anything over 60/70 lbs isn’t very fun with them.

I used to own a mystery ranch that was fit right and anything over 70 sucked lol. I think that’s just a MR thing

I agree hence why I wanna upgrade.
It’s a night and day difference, you won’t be disappointed. I did 125lbs with the MR and after that disaster ordered a K3 the next month. Have done a couple 100+ with it in spots that may have killed me if I kept the metcalf. Really looking forward the K4x

S/M/L only refers to the hipbelt size, so nothing to do with the stay size of the pack fyi.

Have you measured your back properly? Illiac crest to C7? This is the only measurement that matters when choosing the stay size, along with personal preference on what weight range you want the pack optimized for. Ie daypack and 30 lbs you could get away with shorter stays. 70+ lbs and optimum will always be longer in relation to that particular person.

Overall height (5’6), weight and inseam don’t factor into that.

Not sure how in depth you talked with them, and won't speak for them, but I don't think they'd make a recommendation for something they don't offer or couldn't accommodate. And also on the sizing, that might be the "ideal" chart based size, but from what I was told by Mark when addressing my fit, larger frame height will just carry weight better if you're not worried about a little extra height. I technically fall in the 25" but went with the 26.5" because of that, and love it.

It was last year when the k4 came out, I called them to ask some questions. I don’t remember the measurements off the top off my head.

They did mention I could run the women’s frame at 22 inches as well and be fine.

I measured both of my mystery ranch frames. Ones a 2017-18 Pintler and ones an newer guide lite frame. They are both 25 inch frames so I guess I’m fine with a 25 overall. Shorter frame would be sweet for the thick swamps I hunt on the east coast though.

Ya they offer a 22 inch frame. They told me it would be fine for me and prolly better for the eats coast, thick down south swamps I hunt, and be totally fine packing heavy loads out west when I draw tags.

I totally agree on the longer they frame the easier it carries they weight though. I’m gunna see what happens with the presale and then go from there. Might pick up a 25 k4 and run it for a season to comapare. Can always cut it down I guess if it’s too big.

Women's frame doesnt have the molle in the shoulder straps I assume due to real estate. Worth knowing as thats where alot if guys like ti have an Inreach.

I would air on the side that you can order longer stays and trim them down if required rather than run at the max end of the frame capacity. I run the longest stays at 5'10" (long torso to be fair) and dont find it an issue at all and it carries beautifully.

Ya I measured my 2 frames and they are 25 inches, even though they recommend the 22-23.5 based off my hieght I know the 25 inch will carry a load better.

I’m gunna see what happens with the preorder stuff on the new ones and go from there.

Could always buy a frame and an extra set of stays, use 23.5's for your east coast stuff to keep it low-pro, and swap 25's for west coast. They're so modular.

Pre-order has been mentioned a few times. Is there one for the k4x in a couple weeks? I signed up for their email alerts on pre-order etc but haven't gotten any communication from them on it.

I have a 23.5” K4 and a 25” K4 and honestly it’s all most impossible to tell the difference between the two when loaded with a heavy load. Both carry the weight with no issues, the main difference is the 25” does get hung up more going through and under brush or logs and when I look up with the 25” my head hits the pack.
