EXO K4 Now or Wait for the EXO K4X

The K4X pack is probably the one thing that has me the most excited about next years off season. And these pictures make me even more excited!! After fondling it at the hunt expo, it can’t get here soon enough!

Same. I know I’m going to get one to hunt with and just train with my k4.

Ive kind of come to the conclusion that my Terratorn and 2200 are totally different use cases and both needed and that switching bags on the frame is a bigger PITA than I want to deal with.
Honestly keeping my current frame on the Terratorn and getting an x frame for my 2200 bag would be ideal, not sure if I want to wait a year though. Might just bite the bullet and get one and then sell it off next year.

I don't find taking the bag on and off bad at all on the Exo. That said, to me it would make more sense to use the X frame with the terratorn to save a little weight and use the standard frame with the 2200 that's already going to be a pretty light load.

And I’m just the opposite in my thought process. If I remember correctly Exo had mentioned that the K4X might not carry that extreme weight as well as the standard K4 (I could be wrong though). So for me, the terratorn will lead to overall heavier weights so in my mind the K4 will carry that weight better. The X will be for my “lighter loads” and would fit better with a smaller bag to go light and fast…

With all of that being said, I’m really interested to see what the new bags bring to the table too. May end up not even using the 2200 and just use what is available with the X. All of this is speculation but it still gets me excited nonetheless.

I must have missed that. If that's the case then the normal k4 frame on the terrarorn definitely makes sense.

Yea its not that bad. But for an "Im going out for a bit right now" kind of deal I am not going to take the time to swap bags. For an actual hunting trip or something sure, but for routine use all year Its worth the few hundred bucks to just have a 2nd one set up.

Running out to the farm to hike around and shoot, want the 2200. Decide last minute after work to run up to the cabin for the weekend want the Teratorn....

Maybe I will figure out a way I like to run the teratorn as a day pack, have not really yet though. It works in a pinch but not when there is a 2200 bag sitting right there.

Not the case, guys. The entire goal of K4x is to reduce weight without sacrificing performance. Obviously, some subjectivity comes into play, but there should be performance and comfort increases with K4x.

In terms of timeline, the truly custom work we've been doing on raw materials (fabrics, buckles, foams, etc) has taken more time than we hoped. But we're not willing to rush timelines at the expense of thorough testing and refinement. We will continue to have a large number of folks testing K4x this fall and plan to release K4x publicly in 2027.

We may have a very limited amount of K4x packs available for sale as part of an expanded test group in July, but we're still finalizing numbers and availability for those. If you're interested, the best course of action is signing up here: https://exomtngear.com/K4x.

Finally, all of those photos in the past few posts are completely subject to change in terms of exact design elements. For example, I was on that hunt with a pretty much stock 3600 pack configuration, but with new K4x materials. And speaking of it, we should be coming in at ~1lb weight savings if you take a current K4 and build with new K4x materials. We're also planning on adding some simplified UL bags that will shave more weight.

We're doing a ton of work behind the scenes and are super excited to share more when we can!

Mark, glad to hear it. I thought that was the goal but thought maybe some info had come out that the new materials couldn't quite meet the same performance.
