Ever talk yourself OUT of a new rifle?

All the time. New rifle vs more ammo, new glass, new shelter, new pack, pack raft, next hunt, Etc.

Not much a 7 PRC will give you that a 280AI doesn't. Now, neck a 300 PRC down to quarter bore and you have a mean barrel eating monster that will take the 7 PRCs lunch money. Plus you get to spend all the money on wildcatting.

Me, I keep wanting to play with new things, but my 243 works just fine.

More serious, a 6-6.5PRC would be pretty nice and as long as you reload you can piggyback on the work of others and not have to deal with the trouble of working your own wildcat.

I talk myself out of a new rifle everytime I go to Scheels.

Yes, I've talked myself down a few times. I know several people who have rifles/handguns that have never been shot or setup. I think it makes more sense to apply that money to savings/investments or going hunting.

I’ve been putting off the New sexy fast 22 I “think” I need. Instead I am pushing that $ towards ammo so I can actually practice and improve with what I have. Be wearying of the man with one rifle. He likely knows how to use it.

There’s also the possibility he’s a little bit afraid of his wife.

I debate myself multiple times a year. I hunt everything with a tikka t3x in 308. Old round, inefficient, not enough knockdown power. But for some reason it kills everything I shoot at. So far it's taken whitetail, muley, elk, bear, antelope and coyote. It's stupid accurate, cheap to shoot and has no recoil. Easy to reload because there are so many powder options and tons of load data.

But I still look and contemplate all the time. 6.8 western has been awful tempting. But will it be around ten years from now? The 308 certainly will 😁

ive got about 4000 dollars worth of stuff I want and look at every day. but, I havnt and prob wont do any of it. Its like a suppressor. I dont shoot a rifle much an prob only 15 years max left to hunt. So if I shot 5 rounds to check zero, and 2 rounds at deer a year, Is it worth a suppressor price for just over a 100 rounds. Now, If I was 30 again, Id have a suppressor, swaros, etc etc etc etc

$4000 spread over a 15year lifespan is $266 a year. Buy some cool stuff get out and shoot more. Your post depressed me man 😪 enjoy life you only get one

sorry man. i usually just depress the people around me. didnt mean to drag yall in to lol

Other than going the wrong direction on a rifle…

If I’m spending your $ on a sheep gun, it’s a lightened tikka action, 18” 6CM pencil barrel, wood Rokstok lite.

If you like to burn money a 6UM in the same.
Maybe a stock Tikka .243 1:8 in wood Rokstok if sacrifices must be made.

I talk myself out of new rifles by allocating money toward new hunts.

You have everything you need. If you choose to build a new rifle, it'll because you enjoy the process of building and the perpetual chase of the impossibly perfect setup, and you've decided that this sub-genre of this hobby is, in itself, worth the money. It won't be because you need a new rifle to do what you're already doing.

The advice I would give - the advice I often give myself - would be to spend that money on ammo or reloading gear, or on a hunt, or even a suppressor or some other gadget that keeps the hobby fresh without throwing money at just owning MORE unnecessary stuff.

I talked myself out of one last night, though I’ll probably talk myself back into one today. It’s not even really a new rifle, I just need another stainless tikka action so I can get a non stainless out of my stable and put my heavy dasher back together and sell it. The stainless 6.5 PRC on euro optic is close, but then I’m trying to swap around for a standard bolt. Guess I can do a tour of used shops this week and hope for the best.

All the time! Hmmm....do I need it....maybe not....maybe later....I guess I'll buy it just incase....oh wait...there's a new rifle that just came out!!

I am talking myself out of another rifle as I type this. I have a Swfa 3-9 that needs a home and I don’t know if I feel like ripping off my 6x just to put it on.

Just filled another good sized safe with guns that had been sitting in the wild. Still have more in the wild . Really looking at getting a 6 Creedmoor. Absolutely don't need it but that's never been an excuse that worked. Really trying to figure out whether to wait for Tikka to come out with one or do something different. I'm not going to talk you out of anything. If you want it, get it.
