Ever had an issue with theft while tent camping off forest service roads during hunting season?

I fall at the far end of the paranoia spectrum likely, but also do not like the ideal of people stealing expensive or potentially hunt or life saving gear from my truck while out solo. I keep all my tools, rescue gear, backup shelters, sleep systems and hunting gear locked up in padlocked sportsman’s totes that also have 1/2”security cables securing them to anchor points in the bed and cab… with that being said, I’d really hope other hunters wouldn’t be stealing from peoples vehicles and camps high up in the mountains in 2 feet of snow but you just can’t risk it.

I’m always pretty paranoid about leaving valuables out but my dad and his buddies will leave the back door of the jeep open so the pure bred dog can get air, with a nice double gun sitting on top of the crate. As far as I know they’ve never had a problem. He always acts like I’m crazy if I say anything about it

I've never had my gear messed with set up in the wild. I did have an internal frame pack, tent, sleeping bag and all my cooking gear stolen out of a storage locker in the basement of my apartment in Omaha. Secure building with a locked storage area in the basement. Someone got through both of those and cut the padlock off my "storage locker" (built with 2x4s and chicken wire). Given I was a poor college kid at the time it wasn't top-shelf gear but everything I had and the best I could afford.

To add insult to injury the thieves did NOT steal my golf clubs which were right next to the pack. I've golfed 1 time in the 21 years since...for a buddy's bachelor party.
